This role involves leading three major annual productions, managing production logistics, collaborating with music and technical staff, guiding student theater leadership, coordinating with parent volunteers and boosters, and helping maintain performance and storage spaces. The Director helps ensure that theater at DHS remains a vibrant, inclusive, educational, and well-organized experience for all participants. Primary Responsibilities Production Direction & Oversight Direct the three annual productions for DHS Academy Theater: Fall Musical, Dramafest (One-Act Festival / Drama Festival) and Spring Production - which may be a full-length play, musical revue, or a small musical. Oversee all creative, rehearsal, technical, and performance aspects of each production - from auditions through final performance. Collaborate closely with Music Director(s), Technical Director, stage crew, and other production staff to develop a cohesive artistic and technical vision. Attend and supervise all after-school hours rehearsals. Work proactively to manage storage and minimize mess or damage to school facilities. Program Administration & Scheduling Create and maintain detailed rehearsal and production calendars - coordinating with school / performing arts calendar, facility availability, music program, technical crew, and participants. Plan and execute Tech Weeks: technical rehearsals, cue-to-cue, sitz-probes, dress rehearsals, load-in/load-out, and coordination of all technical and performance components (lighting, sound, set changes, costumes). Liaise with school administration and Performing Arts Coordinator on space allocation, scheduling, budget oversight, and adherence to district policies. Leadership, Student Engagement & Mentorship Oversee the Student Theater Board / student-leadership group associated with DHS theater: mentor student leaders, guide them in communication, policy development, show planning, and community-building efforts. Foster a positive, inclusive, educational environment in which students develop performance skills, leadership, collaboration, and responsibility. Family & Community Collaboration Attend monthly meetings of the Danvers Performing Arts Collaborative (E-board / Theater Board) to coordinate with parent volunteers and community supporters (fundraising, publicity, hospitality, logistics). Maintain regular communication with families and the DHS community regarding rehearsals, performance schedules, expectations, ticketing, and other relevant information.
