DESCRIPTION

The County of Yolo is recruiting for one (1) Extra-Help, part-time position in the class of Agricultural Services Assistant with the Agriculture Department. The candidate selected for this position will be placed at the West Sacramento USPS Sorting Facility as a "Dog Team Assistant".

Extra Help: temporary employees who provide coverage for periods of limited duration and are paid on an hourly basis. This assignment is limited to 1000 working hours per year.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following is a description of the duties that will typically be performed as part of this assignment:

  • Assist the Yolo County Dog Team in the inspection of marked and unmarked parcels at the West Sacramento USPS terminal. Walk with the Dog Team approximately 5 miles per shift during the critical sort of inbound (California destination) parcels.
  • Assist with pulling packages from conveyer belts as alerted by the dog, entering package data into excel spreadsheets or emailing photos of the selected packages and submitting this data to "call center" staff.
  • Update a list of shippers that authorize their packages to be opened without a call
  • Assist call center staff in getting permission to open packages

Required Knowledge and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Excel is essential for this position.
  • Ability to walk long distances on concrete, bend, and lift packages from sorting bins
  • Knowledge of search engines (i.e., Truth Finder, Beenverified) are preferred but not required
  • This position requires availability for the overnight USPS sorting shift, typically from 12:00am to 6:00am
