The Department of Environmental Sciences in the College of Agriculture at Tennessee State
University invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position at the rank of
Extension Assistant Professor in Natural Resources Policy and Human Dimensions. The
successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team of faculty dedicated to excellence in
research, teaching, student mentorship, and outreach education. This position plays a key
role in advancing the department's mission to promote sustainable management and
community engagement related to natural resources in both urban and rural settings. The
appointment is expected to begin in Fall 2026.
Responsibilities:
Research: Lead a dynamic research program focusing on natural resources policy and
human dimensions, including but not limited to collaborative resource management,
community forestry, environmental policy, and socio-economic aspects of forestry and
natural resources management.
Extension and Outreach: Develop, implement, and evaluate statewide Extension and
outreach educational programs addressing the natural resources policy and human
dimensions. Collaborate with other Extension faculty/specialists and agents to meet
community needs.
Teaching: Deliver undergraduate and graduate courses, both in-person and online,
contributing to the department's curriculum. Mentoring of graduate and undergraduate
students is also expected.
Service: Participate in departmental, college, and university service activities, including
engagement with stakeholders and community organization
Minimum Qualifications
Doctoral degree required in forestry or related discipline whose extension, research, and teaching focus on the social, socio-economic, cultural, or behavioral dimensions of interactions between forests and human communities, particularly in urban settings. Proven ability to execute applied research program that extends results through collaboration with stakeholders and audiences such as government agencies, industry, private forest landowners, foundations, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Candidate should provide evidence of success in scholarly activities of scientific publications and success with securing external grants. A Ph.D. is required by the time of the appointment.
