The Louisiana Office of Tourism is charged with the responsibility to market and promote Louisiana as a premiere travel destination, increasing revenue generated by visitor spending, and contributing to the economic impact of tourism in all 64 parishes.

The Louisiana Office of Tourism is a multi-pronged agency charged with leading Louisiana's large and diverse tourism industry. The Office of Tourism partners with tourism professionals and industry stakeholders in private and public sectors to extend and enhance their efforts to reach domestic and international travel trade and consumers. The Louisiana Office of Tourism promotes economic growth of Louisiana through the implementation of a variety of specialized programs designed to encourage visitation to the state and increase visitor spending.

This position will serve as a confidential assistant to the Assistant Secretary. In this capacity, this position will assist in the development of agency policy and procedures, maintain spreadsheets of all tourism projects and coordinate with appropriate staff members to have the most up-to-date information available to the Assistant Secretary and coordinate travel and scheduling of the Assistant Secretary.

Minimum Qualifications

Six years of experience in administrative services; OR

Six years of full-time experience in any field plus three years of experience in administrative services; OR

A bachelor's degree plus three years of experience in administrative services; OR

An advanced degree, or a Juris Doctorate, plus two years of experience in administrative services.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Serves as confidential assistant to the Assistant Secretary and maintains project spreadsheets on all projects for up-to-date information for the Assistant Secretary.

  • Coordinates with professional national and state tourism organizations such as Travel South USA, Brand USA, Mississippi River Country, Louisiana Travel Association, among others to schedule board meetings, annual meetings and sales missions.

  • Serves as the Assistant Secretarys contact person for schedule, travel and appointment scheduling.

  • Assist in the development of long-term and short-term goals for each division of the Louisiana Office of Tourism.

  • Maintain budget spreadsheets for each division and agency as its entirety to illustrate budget expenditures.

  • Organizes, coordinates and schedules tourism-oriented commission meetings, including Louisiana Tourism Development Commission; Louisiana Tourism Tax District, Atchafalaya National Heritage Area Commission, Louisiana Retirement Commission and Audubon Golf Trail Commission.

  • Attends staff meetings and is responsible for minutes and project follow-up as assigned at the meetings.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: This is a probational appointment. Current permanent status state employees may be required to accept a probational appointment.

Location: This position is located in Baton Rouge, LA

Work Schedule: This is a full-time position M-F 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. This position may work overtime and may be required to travel.
