The Executive Director (ED) of Development, Yale New Haven Children's Hospital will lead a comprehensive fundraising program sharing the power and vision of Yale New Haven Children's Hospital (YNHCH) improving the health of children and adolescents by transforming and integrating clinical care, pediatric education, and research. The funds raised will fuel groundbreaking advancements and discoveries, leading to better clinical care and programs among Cancer, Cardiology, Diabetes, Digestive Disorders, Fetal/Neonatal Care, Neurology and Orthopedics. The ED will have the opportunity to strengthen the fundraising team and expand the overall fundraising operation, ensuring continued success in achieving its mission, priorities and goals.

Reporting to the Vice President of Principal and Planned Giving, the ED will manage a team of professionals and oversee fundraising efforts focused on clinical care, research and education supporting children's health at YNHCH aligning their work with the priorities set by leadership. The ED will participate in strategic planning, building a case for support, ensuring that fundraising efforts align with both the hospital and the department of pediatrics strategic priorities. They will bring sophisticated development expertise, employing philanthropy and charitable planning strategies to engage donors, grateful patients, and friends at YNHCH. As a valued senior management team member, the ED will inspire trust, foster collaboration, and advocate for staff while serving as a thought leader in fundraising. EEO/AA/Disability/Veteran

Responsibilities
  • Lead a comprehensive Development program for Children's Health philanthropy at YNHCH
  • Provide coaching and inspiration to development and administrative staff partners to accomplish and exceed goals set for Children's Health
  • Identify donor prospects with a strong sphere of influence and affluence resulting in major gifts ($250K and above) and principal gifts ($5M and above)
  • Manage the Children's Health pipeline and gift tables, comprised of the biggest opportunity, developing and implementing cultivation and solicitation strategies throughout YNHCH
  • Personally manage an individual portfolio of principal/planned giving donors, make substantive contact, and present proposals
  • Lead Development strategic planning and prospect management, including identification of priorities for Children's Health capital planning and naming opportunities
  • Serve as the "quarterback" and point of contact for all donor activity within Children's Health; making connections and following up on progress and moves management
  • Meet regularly with the Vice President of Principal Gifts and leadership to discuss strategies for top priorities and prospects and to gain support for positional leadership efforts
  • Partner with educational and clinical partners, faculty, and key leaders to assist with prospect strategy efforts that align with the strategic vision and goals for YNHCH to maximize philanthropic success.
  • Actively engage centralized programs including annual fund, gift planning, prospect research & management, donor engagement, communications, alumni relations and grateful patient programs
  • Partner with Development and Academic teams as related to Children's Health fundraising events, salon engagement events, donor relations, and stewardship efforts
  • Establish and implement long- and short-range goal; sets and achieves unit objectives to achieve unit results and enhance productivity and performance
  • Work with internal and external contacts to solve problems that range from routine to complex in nature; researching and recommending solutions
  • Participate in professional development to achieve both performance goals and career goals in pursuit of YNHHS becoming a workplace of choice among fundraising professionals
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree required. MBA, MHA or equivalent advanced degree is strongly preferred.

EXPERIENCE

10+ years' experience among Development/Advancement/Philanthropy programs at higher educational or healthcare institution(s) with a proven track record securing six, seven and eight figure gifts required. 8+ years' experience leading/managing teams and coaching staff required. Experience in an academic health system, medical school, Tier One research university, or complex nonprofit environment where philanthropy is a strategic imperative, with campaign experience preferred.

  • Planned giving experience or the equivalent knowledge of charitable gift/estate planning skill set(s)
  • Outstanding collaborative skills as a member of a team while working independently across diverse constituencies
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills with capability to favorably affect donors and volunteers
  • Ability to foster meaningful work in a supportive culture with positivity and humor.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Availability to work nights and weekends and travel to events as needed. Work is performed in a remote or office-based environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment.
