JOB DESCRIPTION

Direct and manage the Child Nutrition operation of the District. Plan and implement programs that meet regulatory and nutritional requirements for students, promote the development of sound nutritional requirements for students, and maintain a safe and sanitary environment.

EDUCATIONAL AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition, Business or Related Field
  • Master's Degree or Registered and Licensed Dietitian preferred
  • Eight hours of food safety training completed or within 30 days of employment
  • Valid Texas Driver's License
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of menu planning, food purchasing, and preparation of foods in food service
  • Strong ability to conduct onsite inspections of food service facilities district wide
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel
  • Ability to implement policies and procedures
  • Ability to interpret data
  • Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of computer applications necessary to perform job responsibilities

Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Food Service Management operations, preferably K-12 Food Service operations

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local policies and reporting guidelines for the Food and Child Nutrition Department
  • Establishes and directs process of providing free and reduced lunch applications in compliance with United States Department of Agriculture and Texas Education Agency (TEA) guidelines for meal eligibility and reimbursement of federal funds
  • Reviews employment applications for Child Nutrition positions, conduct interviews and recommend candidates to Human
  • Communicates and promotes high expectation revers for staff and employee performance in an enabling supportive way, and provide proper recognition of excellence and achievement
  • Work cooperatively to develop and implement a cost-effective and efficient food procurement and inventory system that meets both federal and TEA standards
  • Coordinate new initiatives and projects
  • Works with the District construction ana/or maintenance teams for bond projects/kitchen
  • Design, implement and monitor the internal catering program for district events
  • Develop, implement and update written procedures for all food service operations
  • Interface with campus administration to facilitate resolution of concerns
  • Manage the efficient operation of all campus unite to ensure the standards of diet, cleanliness, health, safety and productivity are in alignment with industry and District standards

  • Ensures that the goals and objectives of the Food and Child Nutrition Services complement the District's vision
  • Organizes and conducts training programs to promote safe handling and a safe work environment
  • Assists with the evaluation of formal bids and make recommendations for the awarding
  • of contracts for school board approval as applicable
  • Develops and implements inventory and stock control program for equipment and supplies and recommend replacement and disposal of obsolete equipment as necessary
  • Complies, maintains, and files all reports. and other documents required
  • Assists principals and teachers in the instructional phases of the national School Lunch and Breakfast Program when requested
  • Ensure that community or staff issues_ or concerns are timely Investigated. addressed and resolved as applicable
  • Attend Board meetings as applicable and work extended work hours and/or work weeks to include travel out of town and/or overnight as required throughout the year
  • Assumes responsibility for own professional development; for keeping current with the literature, new research findings, and improved techniques in specialized areas; and for attending appropriate professional meetings
  • Demonstrates a high level of personal integrity, a collaborative leadership style and high ethical standards
  • Participate in activities which support school J community goals and represent the District favorably to the general public

  • Office equipment - personal computer, printer, calculator, multi-line telephone, software programs and peripherals, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position.
