Position Overview:

The Estimator is responsible for assisting the Business Development Representatives in achieving the sales and service objectives for the organization. The Estimator is part of the sales department and is responsible for establishing and maintaining a professional business relationship with existing and prospective customers along with growing the business with each customer until UES becomes their primary supplier of services handled.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide materials testing quantities to the company’s Business Development Representatives
  • Provide support to the business’ sales and marketing organization
  • Responsible for examining client construction plans to provide cost estimates for construction materials testing/threshold inspection services and preparing proposals as needed
  • Meets with clients and prospective clients to examine plans
  • Attends marketing functions outside normal business hours
  • Maintain confidentiality of pricing and bids
  • Cooperating with the Branch Manager, CSD Manager, Production, Scheduling and Operations Departments, ensures timeliness and accuracy of information and specifications required to perform each project.
  • Assist in the completion of RFP and vendor application requests.
  • Other duties assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management; or 5+ years of industry related experience
  • Valid driver’s license, with acceptable driving record.
  • Must be able to read and understand construction blueprints, and both technical and operational information.
  • Needs excellent communication skills, and must maintain a professional personal appearance
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills.
  • Strong time management, mathematical, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team with a focus on producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret blueprints, procedures, manuals, technical documents, and reports.
Travel Requirements:

This position requires extensive travel, approximately up to 70% of the time, in support of business objectives and client engagements. Travel may be both scheduled and on short notice, depending on project needs. Destinations typically include job sites, field locations, or regional offices, where work may be conducted in outdoor or operational environments. Adherence to all company safety protocols and use of PPE is required during travel and on-site work.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:
  • This position primarily operates in a professional office environment, requiring the ability to work at a desk for extended periods while using a computer, phone, and standard office equipment.
  • The position involves sitting for extended periods, performing data entry, and engaging in frequent communication via email, phone, and in-person interactions.
  • The role involves regular communication with team members, clients, and stakeholders, both in person and through virtual platforms.
  • The physical demands of the job may include occasional standing, walking, bending, and lifting of office materials up to 15 pounds
