Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Estimator with strong expertise in mass grading to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, analyzing project plans, and working closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to support winning bids and successful project execution.
Responsibilities:
Review project specifications, drawings, and documents to prepare detailed cost estimates
Perform quantity takeoffs for earthwork, mass grading, utilities, site development, and related scopes
Analyze soil reports, topographic surveys, and geotechnical data to determine cut/fill quantities and grading requirements
Develop and maintain cost databases, production rates, and historical cost information
Solicit, evaluate, and incorporate subcontractor and supplier quotes
Prepare bid proposals, schedules, and supporting documentation
Participate in pre-bid meetings, job walks, and scope reviews
Assist project teams with cost breakdowns, value engineering options, and budget management
Collaborate with operations teams to develop realistic construction means, methods, and production assumptions
Track and analyze actual project costs to improve future estimates
Qualifications:
3 7+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction
Strong experience in mass grading, earthwork, and site development
Proficiency with estimating software (such as HCSS HeavyBid, Agtek, or similar)
Ability to read and interpret civil construction drawings and specifications
Strong understanding of construction methods, equipment capabilities, and production rates
Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills
Strong communication and organizational abilities
Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple estimates simultaneously
Preferred Experience:
Background in projects such as commercial site development, infrastructure, roadways, and large-scale mass excavation
Familiarity with GPS modeling or 3D takeoff tools
Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred but not required)
