Estimating Manager Industrial / Manufacturing

The Estimating Manager Industrial/Manufacturing is responsible for preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates for competitive bids and negotiated proposals, while identifying innovative and economical construction solutions. This role applies standardized estimating processes, tools, and best practices to deliver comprehensive preconstruction estimates and support overall project profitability. All responsibilities are performed in alignment with the strategy, vision, and values.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating & Preconstruction

  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs of materials based on project plans and specifications.
  • Read, interpret, and outline project specifications and drawings.
  • Maintain a complete audit trail of quantity surveys throughout estimate revisions.
  • Prepare complex cost estimates for competitive bids and negotiated proposals.
  • Develop material and cost summaries for vendor and subcontractor quotations.
  • Track value creation opportunities from development through documentation and inclusion in estimates.
  • Develop and manage scopes of work for all trades, including responsibility matrices and pricing coordination.
  • Utilize project schedules and logistics considerations in estimate development.
  • Prepare General Requirements estimates and bid day summaries.

Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination

  • Support pricing solicitation and bid coordination with vendors and subcontractors.
  • Distribute plans and specifications to vendors and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate bid day activities and participate in procurement and presentation meetings.

Collaboration & Project Support

  • Collaborate with project teams, field staff, subcontractors, vendors, and clients.
  • Assist operations and field teams with logistics, staging, phasing plans, and coordination.
  • Gain exposure to field operations through onsite project support as opportunities arise.
  • Work with operations staff to develop cost-effective construction approaches during preconstruction.

Technology, Process & Profitability

  • Apply estimating systems, construction technology, and standardized processes effectively.
  • Assist with system analysis of building components and MEP systems.
  • Improve project profitability by applying knowledge of insurance structures, fees, and rates.
  • Provide professional and comprehensive deliverables upon completion of major estimates.

Leadership & Development

  • Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to junior estimating staff.
  • Promote Lean construction principles and continuous improvement initiatives.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate and timely work.
  • Intermediate verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct effective presentations and participate in client-facing meetings.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, with strong emphasis on Excel (Intermediate).
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications (Intermediate).
  • Proficiency in construction estimating software and required construction technology.
  • Knowledge of construction means, methods, and field operations (Intermediate).
  • Experience preparing quantity surveys and General Requirements estimates.
  • Knowledge of Lean construction processes and philosophy.
  • Understanding of trade scopes, self-perform work, and labor productivity (Intermediate).
  • Ability to develop proficiency in Lens, Revit, and/or ASE software.
  • Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills across internal and external teams.
Education:

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (Preferred).

Experience
  • Minimum 3+ years of estimating experience required.
  • 5+ years of total construction experience preferred.
