Job Description - ESS Technician (26141564)

Position Title:

ESS Technician - (26141564)

The Department of Military Affairs is seeking a Electronic Security Systems Technician responsible for reviewing and overseeing electronic security projects such as surveillance cameras, intercoms, intrusion detection systems, electronic access controls, CCTV and related equipment. The position also completes individual projects in accordance with US Army and MTNG security requirements.

This position will design, troubleshoot and repair electronic equipment in buildings and grounds at Fort Harrison and related field sites, including installing and calibrating National-Guard approved Intrusion Device Systems (IDS), Access Control Systems(ACS), Digital Camera Systems, and intercom systems. Perform diagnostics and track activities to ensure effective operation and safety.

Duties:

  • Install, repair, upgrade and troubleshoot ARNG-G9-IES-I ESS Program approved electronic systems, including Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), Access Control Systems (ACS), Closed Circuit TV (CCTV), Intercom systems, wired/wireless communication systems, computing network system, and related software/equipment for Fort Harrison and other MTNG facilities.
  • Maintain and test electronic security systems, based on the nature and urgency of specific problems, available resources and anticipated timelines.
  • Build, fabricate, repair structures, equipment, and miscellaneous articles from verbal instructions, blueprints, and working drawings; anticipates needs and foster understanding between security specialists and customers.
  • Monitor and maintain supply and equipment inventories for building systems to ensure the quality, availability, and cost-effectiveness of tools, fittings, and consumables. This involves monitoring and projecting ongoing maintenance needs; evaluating vendors, products, equipment specifications; ordering items for specific repairs; and ensuring secure storage.

Must have demonstrated ability to work and engage in diverse working environments within and outside the Department.

Physical and Environmental Demands:

Predominant work is performed in an applied trade environment that involves exposure to minor discomforts, physical annoyances, and/or injuries associated with electronic security systems related maintenance. These include exposure to all components of physical buildings; operating tools and power equipment; and working in restricted spaces. Work may involve investigation and inspection of sites where unknown and potentially hazardous conditions exist. Risk of injuries requires knowledge of safety procedures and special precautions. Essential functions of the job involve physical demands such as sitting, walking, or standing for long periods; independently lifting and transporting materials up to 50 lbs. and equipment; bending, climbing, crawling, and other actions in restricted areas; manual manipulation of small tools and components; and related activities.

This position will serve approximately 50% of the rotational "On-Call/Call-In" assignments and receive additional compensation according to the ESS On-Call/Call-In Policy. This position may be required to work evenings/weekends as necessary during times of security system disruption or unreliability.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years vocational training in electronics, security system design and installation, or a related field.
  • Candidates with demonstrated trade-level experience and certification in a relevant field may substitute one (1) year of experience for the educational requirement.

Special Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a federal background check
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must have obtained or have the ability to obtain ARNG-G9-IES-I Program Certification within twelve (12) months of hire
  • Subject to pre-employment and random drug screening
