Dorchester County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for potential ESOL Teacher openings that may become available for the 2026 - 2027 school year. Working under the direction of the school principal and the content supervisor, this position works with students in decision-making, interpersonal development, and academic growth by providing the strategies, resources, and instruction to enable each student to meet the demands of the Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards.

DUTIES

• Collaborates with classroom teachers to analyze benchmark and other data to determine areas of student need in reading and language usage. • Assesses new entrants to determine eligibility for ELD and notifies Supervisor of new entrants. • Maintains data and reports, including enrollment information, objectives, and goals on students. • Participates in S.S.T.I.E.P. meetings for caseload ESL students and provides designated accommodations in instruction and assessments for students. • Co-plans with classroom teachers to ensure reinforcement of objectives being taught in the regular classroom. • Collaborates with other DCPS EL teachers in developing lessons and use of new strategies. • Provides periodic school-based staff professional development sessions about best-practice strategies for instruction of EL students. • Assumes the test examiner role during ACCESS for ELLs testing. • Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative procedures, and board policies. • Maintains a classroom environment that is safe, orderly, and conducive to effective learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of all students. • Prepares and maintains lesson plans for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of supervisor. • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Possess or be eligible for a Maryland State Department of Education teaching certificate. • Possess a Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited college or university. • Knowledge of Dorchester County Public Schools curriculum, techniques for integrating curriculum, Dorchester County Public Schools policies, and effective instructional practices. • Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multi-cultural education. • Ability to infuse technology into curriculum. • Proficiency in the Maryland Teacher Technology Standards. • Possess an understanding of the Maryland Technology Literacy Standards for Students. • Ability to communicate and work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office, and school-based staff, students, parents, and community. • Excellent oral and written communication and human relation skills.
