Position Title: ESOL Teacher (Adult Education)

Job Description
The full time ESOL Teacher provides high-quality instruction within an adult education program, serving adult English language learners across multiple proficiency levels. This position includes afternoon instruction in Lackawanna for a beginner-intermediate ESOL literacy class four days a week with the potential to teach remotely, focusing on foundational English language skills and literacy development. In the evenings, the instructor will lead an in-person class focused on high intermediate-advanced ESOL GED preparation two days a week, integrating English language instruction with history, science, and math concepts aligned with GED standards.
Job Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging evening ESOL/GED preparation lessons for high intermediate-advanced adult English language learners.
- Integrate English instruction with GED-related content, including history, science, and math.
- Adapt instruction to meet diverse language proficiency levels and learning needs
- Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback.
- Maintain accurate attendance, assessments, and instructional records.
- Foster an inclusive, respectful, and encouraging classroom environment.
- Collaborate with program staff as needed to support student success.
- Use assessment data and reflection to refine curriculum and change instructional practices and support grant/funding requirements.
- Create a nurturing, supportive, and positive learning environment in a diverse classroom with high expectations that encourage student responsibility and enhance motivation.
- Attend all staff meetings and common JERS responsibilities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Reliable transportation required.
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree with two years’ experience.
- Valid New York State Teacher certification preferred.
- TABE Test and BEST Plus Administrator preferred.
- Demonstrated experience teaching ESOL and GED preparation, both in person and remotely, preferably in adult education setting.
- Ability to work effectively with adult learners from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
- Possess the ability to be flexible, creative, and willing to collaborate with other teachers.
