Kforce has a client in Jacksonville, FL that is seeking an ERP Modernization Architect to lead the ongoing evolution of our IBM i (AS/400)-based Mincron ERP platform, which serves as the core system supporting our business operations. This role focuses on maximizing the value of Mincron by strengthening native capabilities where appropriate and extending the platform when business needs exceed its inherent limits. Summary: Working in close partnership with a seasoned RPGLE development team, this role helps shape modernization priorities, guides enhancement efforts within Mincron, and identifies thoughtful solutions to address functional gaps. When native functionality is insufficient, the Architect designs complementary solutions-such as modern application overlays, automated workflows leveraging emerging AI capabilities, or integration mechanisms that connect Mincron with external trading partner systems. This role also provides architectural leadership for user experience modernization initiatives, including oversight of the current Lansa implementation and ongoing evaluation of whether it remains the most effective long-term UI strategy. The position is highly hands-on, operating as an individual contributor with strategic influence, and reports directly to the VP of IT.

Requirements:

  • Hands-on experience using modern programming languages to build integrations or platform extensions, such as Python, Node.js, Java, C#, or similar technologies
  • Strong understanding of API-based integration, including REST and SOAP services, common security mechanisms (OAuth, JWT, API keys), and both synchronous and event-driven communication models
  • Experience designing B2B data exchange solutions, including data transformation, mapping logic, exception handling, and onboarding new trading partners
  • Functional knowledge of DB2 for i, including querying, schema comprehension, and integration with stored procedures; Advanced RPG development expertise is not required
  • Familiarity with IBM i user interface modernization approaches and tools (e.g., Lansa, Profound UI, Valence, or comparable platforms), with the ability to evaluate strengths and limitations objectively
  • Comfort using modern development tooling such as GitHub for version control and VS Code as a primary IDE
  • Practical exposure to AI-assisted development tools and a strong interest in applying agent-based AI solutions to automate and streamline business processes (current tooling includes Claude)
  • Sufficient knowledge of the IBM i platform to collaborate effectively with an experienced RPGLE development team
  • Ability to operate across both legacy enhancement efforts and modern solution delivery, with sound judgment on when to extend the ERP and when to work within it
  • Strong documentation habits and the ability to clearly articulate architectural concepts to both technical audiences and business stakeholders
  • Solid understanding of software development lifecycle principles and Agile methodologies, applied from an architectural or technical leadership perspective
