Description
Charleston County Public Works Department is looking for a highly motivated, qualified individual to join our team! This position performs preventive maintenance and servicing of Public Works vehicles and heavy equipment to ensure they are safe, reliable, and ready for daily operations. The Equipment Service Technician also provides field support and performs related duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Service vehicles and equipment by fueling, lubricating, greasing, and steam cleaning at maintenance facilities and job sites.
- Operate fuel, lubrication, and steam cleaning trucks.
- Maintain adequate inventories of fuel, oil, grease, and other service supplies.
- Inspect vehicles and equipment to identify maintenance needs and ensure proper fluid levels in accordance with preventive maintenance schedules.
- Fuel vehicles and transport equipment to and from work sites as needed.
- Provide field service and emergency fueling or lubrication for equipment operating in the field.
- Safely handle fuel spills and hazardous materials in accordance with OSHA and HazMat regulations.
- Operate equipment as needed, including testing equipment following service or repairs.
- Operate service equipment, including power greasers, oil purifiers, power lube systems, and related tools.
- Clean vehicles and equipment to maintain a safe and professional appearance.
- Maintain accurate records of fueling, servicing, inspections, and other required documentation using an iPad and work management software.
- Keep supervisors informed of work progress, equipment issues, and opportunities to improve operations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two (2) years or more of experience in engine maintenance and repair, equipment servicing, equipment operation, or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Valid South Carolina Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with Tanker and Hazardous Materials endorsements.
- Valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of gasoline and diesel engine operation and preventive maintenance.
- Knowledge of the tools, equipment, and procedures used to maintain Public Works vehicles and heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and HazMat requirements related to fuel handling and spill response.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions while meeting time-sensitive deadlines.
- Ability to safely operate service vehicles and maintenance equipment.
- Ability to use an iPad and computerized work management software to document and track work activities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced outdoor environment.
