Position Summary

The employee in this position will perform duties and responsibilities related to the establishment and maintenance of operational policies and procedures related to the repair of departmental equipment. This employee will be required to determine service priorities within the department, determine feasibility of new part or equipment purchases over rebuilding of present equipment. Mechanical aptitude and experience required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Installation & Repair

  • Work independently to install new or replacement equipment and machinery, clean, oil, and repairs motors and make minor adjustments to electric motors
  • Install new or replacement equipment and machinery parts and connect to power lines or duct work, make adjustments, replace parts or repair mechanical equipment utilizing schematics and in accordance with manufacturers recommendations

Repair Policies & Procedures

  • Establish and maintain operational policies and procedures necessary to repair and maintain departmental equipment in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations
  • Establish and adhere to preventative maintenance schedules and equipment repair tracking logs according to manufacturer's recommendations
  • Make recommendations to supervisor regarding the feasibility of new part/equipment purchases over rebuilding of present equipment
  • Track and assist in the maintenance of budgets for accounts related to repair and maintenance

Purchasing & Maintenance

  • Responsible for the proper assembly, operation, maintenance, cleaning and storage of all equipment when purchased by the department per manufacturer recommendations
  • Report all repair needs of equipment to supervisor
  • Make equipment purchase recommendations to supervisor

Training & Snow Removal

  • Operate and assist in the education of new and existing employees in the safe operation of all equipment including pressure washer, pavement sweepers, scissor, singleman, and boom lifts, automatic scrubbers and power sweepers (including rider type), all types of wet pick-ups and dry vacuums, all types of extractors, power blowers, backpack vacuums, floor machines and utility vehicles including snow plows
  • Assist with snow removal

Inventory

  • Establish and maintain adequate stock levels of replacement parts in order to repair equipment/machines in a timely manner for the department

Miscellaneous Duties

  • Perform miscellaneous, related duties as assigned

Minimum Required Qualifications (Civil Service)

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year (12 months) of work experience in mechanical repair of equipment to be serviced.
  • Certificate of training by the manufacturer of the equipment to be repaired, if applicable.
