Equipment Operator - Streets Salary $16.92 Hourly Location Beaumont, TX Job Type Full Time Job Number 5440 Department Public Works Department Division Streets & Drainage Opening Date 03/20/2025 Description Benefits Questions Duties and Responsibilities Essential Job Functions: Operates any or all of the following light to medium weight equipment: 2 to 14 yard dump truck, tractor with mower, two ton stake bed truck, bucket truck, chipper, stump remover, roller, trencher, front end loader, water truck, slope mower; may perform such tasks as mowing grass in parks, medians and right of ways, removing stumps, collecting refuse, repairing and maintaining streets, excavating, operates chain saws and cuts trees, trenching and hauling various material; inspects services and makes minor repairs to equipment and reports malfunctions; exercises extreme caution in equipment operation; performs manual tasks as needed; may operate other types of equipment on a temporary relief basis. Other Job Functions: Cleans catch basins, shovels, fills sand bags. Performs other duties as required. Working Conditions Works outside in all kinds of weather; may be exposed to extreme cold, heat, temperature swings, constant noise and working in trenches and ditches; also exposed to mechanical, electrical, explosive, fume/odor, chemical and gas vapor hazards. Must be available to work Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Must be available to work extended hours and different shifts as needed. Subject to 24 hour call out. Position considered essential during emergency situations. Minimum Essential Qualifications Knowledge: Considerable knowledge of the operating procedures and servicing requirements of assigned equipment; considerable knowledge of applicable traffic laws, ordinances and regulations involved in the operation of assigned equipment; knowledge of potential work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with assigned equipment. Skills/Abilities: Skilled in the operation and servicing of various equipment; ability to operate equipment safely and skillfully in and around traffic, construction sites and work areas; ability to make minor operating adjustments and repairs and to recognize operating deficiencies in assigned equipment; ability to perform manual labor; ability to make simple mathematical calculations; ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions; ability to make independent decisions. Physical Requirements: Constantly sees and hears; frequently drives, lifts, carries, climbs, sits, stands, twists body, walks, writes by hand, pulls and pushes objects weighing up to 100 lbs.; infrequently stoops, kneels and uses a calculator. Education/Experience: Completion of eight (8) school grades; high school graduation or equivalent preferred; minimum one (1) year experience in the operation and servicing of light to medium weight equipment used in construction and maintenance. Other Must possess a valid B-CDL driver's license with a good driving record. Other state valid Class B-CDL driver's license with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
