Range 33 ($6,116.57 - $9,763.43) per month based on the current Classified salary schedule. New employees will begin on Step A ($6,116.57), Step B ($6,422.39) with 18 months of verified, paid, full-time equivalent related job experience or up to Step C ($6,743.51) with 36 months of verified, paid, full-time equivalent related job experience. For purposes of salary placement, 7.5 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of directly related coursework from a regularly accredited institution will be equivalent to one (1) year of job experience. Promoted or transferred employees will be placed as specified in the CBA. This position is FLSA Non-exempt (may accrue overtime). Excellent Benefits are provided to all Contract employees with assignments greater than, or equal to, 50% (0.50 FTE) and all eligible dependents. A temporary probationary period will apply to the employee entering this assignment. Applications are currently being accepted for Equipment Maintenance Specialist in the Equipment Repair Department, located at the District Service Center. Hours are Monday through Friday 6:30AM - 3:00PM. Selected candidate must be willing to adjust workdays/hours based on the department's needs.

Desired Qualifications

Knowledge:

  • Health and safety regulations. Mechanical applications, machine operations, and equipment functionality.
  • Methods, materials, and equipment used in maintenance and repair of equipment.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Principles of construction and operation of a variety of manual and electrical equipment and motors.
  • Principles of work direction.
  • Technical aspects of field of specialty.
  • Use of metal cutting tools, such as oxygen settling torch, plasma cutter, and carbon arc.
  • Welding with various welders to include tig, mig, and stick.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Diagnose, repair, and adjust equipment defects.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Estimate labor and material costs.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Make simple arithmetic calculations.
  • Train and provide work direction and guidance to others.
  • Work from plans blueprints, drawings, and specifications.

License:

  • Valid California driver's license.

Training and Experience:

  • Any combination of training and experience equivalent to: graduation from high school and four years experience in the maintenance, repair, and adjustment of mechanical and electrical equipment and motors involving at least one year at the journey level.
  • One-year experience in the leading of technical staff is desirable.

Physical Requirements: Category I Environment: May include less desirable extremes.

Foreign Degree:

Applicants with foreign degrees from colleges or universities outside of the United States must have their coursework evaluated by a professional association that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or Academic Credentials Evaluation Institute, INC.(ACEI). SELECTED CANDIDATE IS REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT:
