Description

The Equipment Department Manager is responsible for leading the Tool & Equipment Center and owning end-to-end performance across Maintenance Logistics and Assets. Reporting to the Equipment Department Director, the Equipment Department Manager has full authority over budget stewardship, staffing decisions, vendor relationships, and purchasing. The mission is to deliver outstanding service to our clients while enhancing efficiency and reducing overall costs, including cost recovery to achieve a break-even financial posture.

The equipment manager oversees a multi-tier team, including: • Section Manager • Group leads • Staff assistants • Specialists • Coordinators • Warehouse material technicians • Handlers • Tool room attendants

This position will establish a disciplined operating system focused on inventory accuracy, pick ticket fulfillment, and maintenance. Success requires expert equipment management skills, strong leadership in change, and the ability to positively influence stakeholders.

Drive a service-oriented culture through the department to deliver outstanding project support.

Provide leadership to the team, directing and coordinating work assignments and reviewing performance to ensure efficient cost-effective utilization of staff.

Responsible for the growth of the department, ensuring staff levels, loading, and assignments meet project requirements while maintaining cost recovery goals.

Lead a high-performing Equipment organization across Maintenance Logistics and Assets, identifying group leads and frontline supervisors.

Implement, apply, and support company programs and initiatives, successfully navigating and managing change within the department.

Provide expert-level technical guidance and support.

Develop and achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.

Develop and manage departmental budget and fund expenditures.

Develop Equipment Status reporting and analytics that show utilization, location, availability, and cost trends.

Prepare and present workload and monthly financial reports to regional management and applicable project managers.

Own master system data integrity and transaction discipline, receiving, issuing, transfers, returns, calibrations, and maintenance.

Recruitment, development, training, and retention of staff.

Develop and implement controls to achieve an inventory accuracy rate of 90 or higher through cycle counts, variance reconciliation, and exception workflows.

Develop controls to achieve a pick ticket fulfillment rate of 90 or higher, establishing minimum stock levels for long lead and high-demand items, order tracking, and follow-up.

Develop controls to achieve zero overdue maintenance.

Responsible for conducting performance evaluations for department staff.

Provide leadership guidance and instruction to the department.

Responsible for interpreting policies, purposes, and goals of the organization to staff.

Responsible for overall QA/QC process adherence, specific to the equipment department.

Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies and procedures.

Responsible for maintaining compliance with equal employment opportunity initiatives.

Implement technology to enhance the department.

Maintains current knowledge of evolving technologies and applies them to departmental operations.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor Degree in engineering, architecture, construction, or related degree from an accredited program and 7 years related professional experience in design and/or project management required.

Applicable experience may be substituted for degree requirement.

Previous leadership and/or management experience is preferable.

Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.

Position requires the ability to thoughtfully and positively influence lead and manage change.

Must possess strong project management skills and a strategic perspective.

Must be expert in the use of computer software, i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
