Job Summary and Qualifications 

As an Electrophysiology (EP) Technologist, you will demonstrate expertise in patient care, assessment, and the range of treatments related to electrophysiology procedures. You will assist physicians during diagnostic and interventional EP studies as well as pacemaker and ICD implantations. This role requires in-depth knowledge of human growth and development, as well as the ability to work with a variety of patients, ensuring high standards of care and safety throughout procedures. The EP Technologist plays a key role in patient preparation, procedural assistance, and patient education, as well as supporting quality improvement initiatives within the department. 

What You Will Do In This Role: 

  • Assist physicians by scrubbing/assisting during diagnostic and interventional electrophysiology procedures. 

  • Assist physicians during the insertion and removal of devices, such as pacemakers and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs). 

  • Monitor, record, and report patient symptoms and changes in condition. 

  • Assess, plan, and implement care for patients undergoing electrophysiology procedures. 

  • React quickly and appropriately to emergency situations during procedures. 

  • Communicate pre- and post-procedure education to patients and their families. 

  • Provide hemodynamic monitoring assistance during electrophysiology procedures. 

  • Actively participate in precepting new employees and sharing knowledge with peers. 

  • Contribute to the department’s continuous quality improvement efforts. 

  • Prepare patients for examinations or treatments and assist as necessary. 

  • Maintain and update knowledge of EP procedures, continuing education as needed to perform daily duties effectively. 

  • Uphold the facility’s Standards of Performance and ICARE values. 

 

What qualifications you will need: 

  • Must have one of the following: 

  • Current certification as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), or must obtain this certification within one year of hire. 

  • Current registration from an accredited School of Radiologic Technology and licensed through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) as a Registered Radiologic Technologist [RT(R)]. 

  • Staff with 8 years of EP procedure experience may be considered but must complete advanced registration (RCIS or RCES) or obtain their Radiologic Technologist license within one year of hire. 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required. 

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the AHA is required within 6 months of hire. 

  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, guests, physicians, and colleagues. 

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in an electrophysiology or cardiac catheterization lab.
