DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Under the direction and supervision of the Area Administrator, the EOPS - CARE/Student Equity Counselor provides academic, career, personal, and crisis counseling; assesses placement tests; develops educational plans; guides students through basic skills, general education, and transfer coursework; implements an academic progress report and follow-up process; facilitates support for the EOPS - CARE and student populations identified in the Student Equity plan as assigned; and disproportionately impacted students such as educationally disadvantaged, first-generation, members of underrepresented groups, ethnic minorities, persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantaged, foster youth, and undocumented students. Collaborates with the implementation of the Student Equity plan from a categorical program perspective; and, works closely and collaboratively with the EOPS/CARE/NextUp Director or Dean of Student Success and staff.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION:
Selected persons must maintain a flexible work schedule, which allows for off-campus assignments and be enthusiastically capable of adapting to the various conditions and demands of the program. Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnical backgrounds of community college students.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate, by the final filing date, must possess the minimum qualifications for Counselors at California Community Colleges: EOPS Counselors are those persons designated by the community college to serve as academic counselors in the EOPS program and must possess:
(NOTE: A license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline, pursuant to Title 5 Section 53410.1.)
EQUIVALENCY: Applicants must meet YCCD minimum qualifications by the filing date or have been awarded equivalency by the District prior to the publication of the Recruitment Announcement.
FOREIGN TRANSCRIPTS: Include a U.S. evaluation and translation. Contact the Human Resources website for a list of agencies providing foreign transcript services.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Education Code §87408.6 states that no person shall be initially employed by a community college district in an academic or classified position unless the person has submitted to an examination (TB test) within the past sixty (60) days to determine that he/she/they is free of active tuberculosis.
As a condition of employment, the position you are applying for will require that you provide fingerprints to the local police department. The fee charged by the Department of Justice (DOJ) for the fingerprint report is the employee's responsibility.
