Job Description/Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Serve as a positive role model to guide, support, and empower EOP students throughout their first academic year as they begin their academic and social adjustment to Stan State
Meet with assigned mentees individually or in groups on a regular basis
Maintain regular contact with mentees through Stan State email and Warrior Connect • Create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all assigned mentees
Monitor assigned mentee progress academically and personally as they transition to Stan State
Educate mentees about and refer to campus services and resources
Assist mentees with academic planning tools, resources, forms, policies and procedures.
Assist mentees with developing student success strategies such as effective time management, studying, note-taking, test-taking, critical thinking, listening, reading, communication, stress management, balancing work and school and other life skills
Assist mentees with personal situations such as listening, offering advice and referring to appropriate program staff and/or campus departments as appropriate
Assist with coordinating, promoting, and facilitating EOP events
Participate in weekly staff meetings, trainings, and activities as directed
Collaborate with EOP staff and mentors
Abide by and enforce all program and University policies and procedures
Assist with the development and implementation of Summer Bridge
In addition to all duties listed above, specific Summer Bridge duties include o Assist with preparing and facilitating Summer Bridge mentor workshops and activities
Maintain professional and encouraging communication with Summer Bridge participants and staff providing exemplary representation of EOP and Stan State
Monitor mentee behavior and engagement and communicate with Summer Bridge staff regarding any concerns
Attend and actively participate in all Summer Bridge trainings
Assist with planning and facilitating mentor activities for MDIS 1040 First Year Experience course as assigned
Serve as an EOP representative at university events as needed
Complete administrative tasks such as tracking/reporting mentee information, complete appropriate forms and logs Participate in and complete other tasks as assigned
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
Must be an EOP student with at least 15 completed units and be willing to commit to employment through May 2027
Must be enrolled in at least 6 units as an undergraduate at Stan State or 4 units as a graduate student
Must be available to work the following dates (cannot be enrolled in Stan State summer classes during these dates):
o July 13-18 8:00am-5:00pm for Summer Bridge
o June 1- July 10 for Summer Bridge Training
o August 10 - August 14 Peer Mentor Training and fall preparation
Required Qualifications:
Undergraduate students must be registered/enrolled in a minimum of six (6) Fall/Spring units.
Salary Range
$16.90-$18.00 per hour.
