Orlando Health is a 3,200-bed system that includes 15 wholly-owned hospitals and emergency departments; rehabilitation services, cancer institutes, heart institutes, imaging and laboratory services, wound care centers, physician offices for adults and pediatrics, skilled nursing facilities, an in-patient behavioral health facility, home healthcare services in partnership with LHC Group, and urgent care centers in partnership with CareSpot Urgent Care. Position Summary
The Environmental Services Technician Level I is responsible for executing the daily duties required to establish and maintain a safe, clean,
healing environment. The role ensures daily room cleaning and timely room turnaround times related to patient throughput within
the basic principles of environmental hygiene and infection prevention. The Environmental Services Technician, in accordance with
organizational standards of quality, is an essential contributor to cleaning, disinfection, infection prevention, and customer experience.
Essential Functions
• Responds to common inquiries or complaints from customers, using appropriate designated engagement techniques.
• Cleans and disinfects patient rooms and ancillary areas, to include, but not limited to, bathrooms, public areas, corridors,
medication storage rooms as directed and any other areas that may require attention using designated and appropriate chemicals
and cleaning procedures.
• Accesses and uses all department related technology systems, such as but not limited to, the Bed Management systems, while
demonstrating good working knowledge.
• Replenishes supplies as needed, removes bio-medical waste, trash, and soiled linen as required daily and changes cubicle/window
curtains as needed.
• Completes patient room and bathroom cleaning daily to accommodate discharges/admissions and overall cleanliness standards,
utilizing the approved procedures for patient room cleaning, to include Bed Management systems where applicable.
• Performs duties while demonstrating working knowledge of health care cleaning and disinfecting principles and requirements,
proper and safe chemical use, equipment handling, and labor-saving products for all items within the healthcare environment
assigned for servicing.
• Adheres to all organization safety, risk management, and infection control guidelines and standards while promoting a culture of
safety.
• Operates UV disinfection machine as needed.
• Actively participates in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including but not limited to initiatives to improve
customer experience and cleanliness metrics.
• Follows all infection prevention practices including proper cleaning and disinfection protocols and processes, hand hygiene,
standard and isolation precautions, as well as proper donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Recognizes and adheres to patient privacy requirements (HIPAA).
• Reports unsafe situations and turns in Engineering Service Requests for repair.
• Communicates, reads, and writes in standard English, as this is the main business language.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal,
state, and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions
• Demonstrates effective use of computers and/or mobile devices for daily job performance activities. Identifies and
utilizes appropriate resources to ensure identified problems or concerns are followed through and resolved.
• Demonstrates knowledge of facility safety requirements.
• Demonstrates the ability to operate and properly maintain all EVS tools and equipment needed to clean and disinfect the
environment.
• Demonstrates the ability to set up/dismantle beds for cleaning according to department cleaning procedures.
• Completes other tasks assigned by EVS leadership.
• Demonstrates the ability to communicate orally or in writing openly and candidly, creating an environment where co-workers
and team members reciprocate in kind.
