Tetra Tech is adding an Environmental Scientist - Hazardous Waste to our Environmental Team based at NASA's Stennis Space Center, MS.

Your Role:
- Assist in the implementation and maintenance of environmental compliance programs, including hazardous waste, solid waste, petroleum, oil, and lubricants (POLs)/Spills, and tanks.
- Perform waste determinations, classification, and profiling in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Conduct inspections and monitoring of hazardous waste accumulation sites, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Document findings and corrective actions; support follow-up investigations and closure of observations, consistent with center processes.
- Coordinate hazardous waste pickups and off-site disposal with approved Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facilities (TSDFs). Ensure manifests, Land Disposal Restriction (LDR) forms, and supporting documentation are accurate and complete.
- Manage hazardous waste inventory using a government provided database and ensure timely removal of full accumulation containers consistent with center requirements.
- Track and verify waste shipments, invoices, and reconciliations.
- Prepare and submit required reports, including hazardous waste generator reports, spill reports, and other compliance reports.
- Maintain accurate records of environmental compliance activities, including tracking hazardous materials and waste management data.
- Provide technical support and consultation to site personnel regarding environmental compliance issues and best practices.
- Support on-site lead to host training programs for NASA staff and contractors related to environmental compliance topics, including hazardous waste management and spill response.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders to improve environmental performance.
- Participate in spill response and clean-up activities. Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
- Support oil-filled equipment (generators, transformers, etc) inspection program.
- Support the update and implementation of spill prevention and response plans for POLs.
- Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness.
- Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
- Additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, or a related field is preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience.
- Current HAZWOPER training is preferred.
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal environmental regulations related to hazardous waste, drinking water, stormwater, and wastewater management.
- Knowledge of NASA environmental guidelines, systems, and processes is preferred, but not required
- Must possess a valid driver's license in good standing.
- Must be detail oriented to properly document all environmental compliance activities occurring across the contract.
This position requires the candidate to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on.
