The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA), Division of AK National Guard (AKARNG), Environmental Section (ENV)

is recruiting for an Environmental Program Specialist (EPS) Flex 1/2/3!

This position is in the General Government (GGU) Bargaining Unit and is flexibly staffed based on experience and/or training plan.

What You Will Be Doing:

This Environmental Program Specialist position supports the Alaska Army National Guard's Environmental Office by assisting with environmental compliance activities such as hazardous waste handling, fuel storage tank management, spill response and cleanup, and soil and water sampling. The role also involves conducting site evaluations and supporting cultural resource protection efforts. Working as part of the environmental compliance team, the position provides both formal and on-the-job training while contributing to the safe and environmentally responsible operation of AKARNG facilities and activities.

The successful applicants must pass a federal background check in order to qualify for military base access, which is required with this positions work location on base. The background check may include fingerprinting. A bachelors degree from an accredited college in an environmental, physical, biological, or natural science; engineering; planning; or natural resources.

Minimum Qualifications For Environmental Program Specialist 2

  • Environmental Science - Knowledge of the interdisciplinary concepts, principles, theories, and methods of investigating the natural and physical environment, including examination of ecology, biology, physics, chemistry, plant science, zoology, mineralogy, oceanography, limnology, soil science, geology and physical geography, atmospheric, and other related sciences in the protection and improvement of the environment and its resources.

  • Scientific Research - Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and theories of scientific principles related to environmental, ecological, biological, or physical science and the methods, and processes used to conduct a systematic and objective inquiry; including study design, collection, analysis, and interpretation of data; and the reporting of results.

  • Critical Thinking - Analyzes and evaluates data to draw logical and well-reasoned conclusions.

  • Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:

Other Job Requirements:

May travel to remote areas of the state to support the Departments missions. DMVA is housed on the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson military base; incumbent must be able to pass security check to access this federal military installation and for acquisition of CAC card. Continued employment is contingent upon successful award of CAC card and continued eligibility to possess it. Adherence to special security guidelines, protocol, etc. for Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson need to be followed.
