SCOPE: Reporting to the Madawaska VP of Operations the Environmental Manager is responsible for the environmental programs and the operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant and Landfill Operations at the Madawaska Mill. RESPONSIBILTIES: + Performs safety audits, conducts safety meetings, incident/accident investigations, safety inspections and works closely with safety representatives to improve mill safety. + Responsible for environmental programs and compliance with environmental regulations. + Responsible for the operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, and Landfill Operations + Responsible for maintaining ISO14001 Environmental Management System and certification + Ensures compliance with policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and the collective agreement and implements appropriate measures as required. + Ensures Management Operating Systems are followed daily. + Ensures that direct reports are informed of Company activities, results, priorities, and operating philosophy so activities and behaviors of members of departments are aligned with the values supported by the organization. + Ensures that hourly employees have adequate training to support activities of the department and fulfil future manpower requirements. + Provides leadership and guidance to hourly employees while promoting employee involvement and participation in problem solving and continuous improvement. + Attends and supports the daily mill production meeting and participates in other meetings such as safety, capital/project reviews, contractor performance, business review, project scheduling, budget review and staff meetings as required. + Maintains required State of Maine Grade 5 or equivalent wastewater treatment operator’s license with continual training. + Responsible for environmental operations during certain weekends on a rotation basis and is on call for environmental spills. + Shall have responsibility to report problems with the food safety management system to identified person(s). Designated personnel shall have defined responsibility and authority to initiate and record actions. + Shall have an awareness of the Food Safety Policy, GMP’s, HACCP Principles and Food Safety Standard. REQUIREMENTS: + Bachelor’s Degree and/or equivalent experience + Class 2 Wastewater Treatment license + Experience in pulp and paper industry + Computer skills include Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
