Job Description

This entry-level Environmental Laboratory Analyst I role offers an excellent opportunity for recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in a regulated environmental testing laboratory. The position focuses on preparing and processing environmental samples, supporting soil and water chemical analysis, and maintaining accurate documentation to support environmental compliance. You will work closely with a collaborative laboratory team and follow established procedures to ensure high-quality, reliable test results.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and log incoming environmental samples, ensuring all relevant information is accurately recorded.
  • Prepare environmental samples for analysis by weighing, spiking, aliquoting, and processing samples according to established laboratory procedures.
  • Utilize analytical balances, pipettes, and other standard laboratory equipment to perform precise measurements and sample preparation tasks.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, including test data, sample tracking, and environmental compliance documentation.
  • Assist with shipping and receiving of customer samples and sample kits, ensuring timely and accurate handling.
  • Verify sample receipt compliance and confirm that proper chain of custody documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Follow all laboratory safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of samples and chemicals.
  • Support environmental testing activities in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements and internal quality standards.
  • Assist with sample receiving, sample processing, and sample collection support as needed to ensure smooth laboratory operations.
  • Communicate clearly with team members and other stakeholders to coordinate sample workflows and resolve issues related to sample handling or documentation.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor"s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Environmental Science, or a related scientific field.
  • Basic laboratory experience gained through coursework, internships, research projects, or employment.
  • Hands-on experience using analytical balances and pipettes, including measuring volumes and following standard laboratory procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate on shared laboratory tasks.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to document work clearly and interact with colleagues.
  • Familiarity with environmental testing concepts, environmental compliance, and sample processing.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience in an environmental, chemistry, biology, or quality laboratory setting.
  • Understanding of environmental testing requirements and regulatory compliance expectations.
  • Experience handling environmental samples such as soil and water, including proper labeling, storage, and documentation.
  • Exposure to chain of custody procedures and documentation for environmental samples.
  • Experience supporting environmental testing activities, including sample receiving, sample preparation, and basic sample collection support.

Work Environment

This position is based in an upstairs laboratory environment focused on sample preparation for soil and water chemical analysis. You will work at laboratory benches using analytical balances, pipettes, and other standard lab equipment, following established procedures and safety protocols. The role involves regular handling of environmental samples and chemicals, adherence to personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and consistent attention to cleanliness and organization in the lab. The work is team-oriented, with close collaboration among laboratory staff to manage sample flow and meet testing timelines.

This is a Contract position based out of Atlanta, GA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr.
