Southwest District Health (SWDH) is recruiting for an Environmental Health Specialist (EHS) 2 - Food Safety & Investigations to join the dedicated group of public health professionals in the Environmental Section of Environmental and Community Health Services Division.
This position may be filled by an Environmental Health Specialist 1. The EHS1 is considered an underfill for the EHS2 and must obtain the REHS/RS licensure within one year of appointment wherein they will be promoted to an EHS2 with a salary increase.

As an Environmental Health Specialist and public health employee, you will serve an active role in improving the health of your community. As part of a small, but mighty team, you will perform hands-on inspections and investigations to assess, educate, and support compliance with environmental health standards.
You will focus primarily on food safety while also supporting work in childcare, public pools, and community concerns. You will partner with businesses and community members to reduce risks, provide practical guidance, and help prevent illness through education and response efforts, including foodborne illness investigations.

Our generous benefits package elevates the total compensation for a full-time Environmental Health Specialist. For an EHS2, the hourly pay range of $27.17 - $31.96 increases to an estimated $39.84 - $45.69.If filled as an underfill (EHS1), the hourly pay range of $24.08 - $28.33 increases to an estimated $36.25 - $41.44. This position is not covered by Social Security. Employees do not pay Social Security taxes and will not earn credits toward Social Security retirement, disability, or survivor benefits based on earnings from this job. However, Medicare taxes will still be withheld, and these earnings will count toward Medicare eligibility.
