We are seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to lead and continuously improve safety and environmental compliance across a complex, mission-critical research campus.

In this high-impact role, you will serve as the primary authority for safety, health, and environmental programs supporting laboratory operations, central utility systems, and specialized research environments. You will work directly with Government safety officials, operations leadership, and technical teams to ensure a culture of proactive safety, regulatory excellence, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Responsible for full implementation, oversight, and compliance of all Safety, Health, and Environmental Programs supporting mission-critical laboratory and utility operations at the research campus. Including:

  • OSHA compliance programs (LOTO, confined space, PPE, fall protection, NFPA 70E)
  • Conduct accident and incident investigations and implement corrective actions
  • Perform routine safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs and toolbox talks
  • Track certifications, training, and compliance documentation
  • Oversee environmental compliance programs (hazardous waste management, spill prevention and response, air & water protection)
  • Coordinate environmental permitting and regulatory reporting
  • Maintain audit-ready compliance records
  • Monitor safety performance metrics and produce regular reports

You will directly coordinate with Government safety personnel to ensure that all of our personnel and subcontractor support follow safe work practices and environmental guidelines.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years documented EHS experience within an industrial, laboratory, construction, or commercial building environments:
    • Research laboratories
    • Biosafety facilities (BSL-2 / BSL-3 preferred)
    • Animal research facilities (AAALAC preferred)
    • Federal Government facilities
  • Minimum 3 years' experience implementing and maintaining compliance with Federal, State, and Local environmental, health, and safety regulations, including OSHA, EPA.
  • Experience conducting safety audits and regulatory inspections.
  • Experience with emergency response planning, contractor safety oversight, and environmental permitting is required.
  • Demonstrated incident investigation and corrective action management experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental health & safety, Environmental Science, or related field. (Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of degree)

Desirable Skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft applications
  • Strong verbal and written communications
  • Ability to develop and deliver training programs
  • Capable of interpreting regulatory standards, safety data sheets (SDS), permits, and technical documents.

Desirable Certifications

Must have ONE of the following:

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)

Must also have:

  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry
  • HAZWOPER (40-hour) certification
  • Confined Space Competent Person training
  • LOTO Authorized Person training

Bonus:

  • LEED accreditation
  • EPA Universal Refrigerant certification
  • Experience with AAALAC inspections

Work Location & Travel
