About the Role - What You’ll Do
Manage all safety, health, environmental, and regulatory programs and reporting requirements for the Elyria site. This includes overseeing filings, reporting, recordkeeping, inspections, surveys, testing, assessments, or investigations to ensure compliance with regulations, laws, permits, and enforcing safety and other site requirements.
Provides strong occupational and process safety leadership while driving a proactive safety culture and maintaining ISO 14001 and Responsible Care program requirements.
 
 
Key Responsibilities
 
Area of Responsibility 1: Environmental Compliance & Regulatory Management
  • Manage all regulatory and permitting activities associated with organic peroxide manufacturing and storage.
  • Identify environmental and regulatory risks and work collaboratively with operations, maintenance, production, safety, and leadership teams to eliminate compliance gaps
  • Ensure all applicable permits remain current and all regulatory reporting requirements are completed accurately and on time.
  • Conduct or coordinate required environmental testing and prepare associated regulatory reports.
  • Coordinate waste and hazardous waste disposal in compliance with hazardous waste and air permits.
  • Support wastewater treatment plant operations and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Serve as the primary contact for external regulatory agencies regarding environmental and compliance matters.
  • Respond to compliance surveys and provide accurate, timely documentation.
  • Perform onsite hazardous waste management activities and required annual training
  • Maintain working knowledge of regulations impacting site operations, including OSHA, EPA, DOT, and NFPA
  • Review, update, and implement policies and programs to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations
 
Area of Responsibility 2: Health & Safety
  • Evaluate site conditions for conformance with permits, regulations, and internal standards, identifying health/safety hazards
  • Participate in OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) compliance efforts and other regulatory programs
  • Identify and work collaboratively with operations, maintenance, production, safety, and leadership teams to eliminate health/safety hazards
  • Manage the safety variance system and ensure accurate documentation
  • Oversee site security programs, including access control, visitor management, and coordination of physical security measures to protect personnel, assets, and operations
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA)
  • Develop and maintain standardized procedures for safety programs and production processes
  • Act as the main contact and subject matter expert for EHS topics at the site
  • Own and report site management weekly and monthly KPIs
  • Serve as the site emergency coordinator for related emergencies
  • Conduct site training for personnel, contractors, and others as required
       
      Safety & Environment
      • Ensure environmental activities support site safety standards, emergency response readiness, and hazard mitigation
      • Maintain compliance with all requirements related to waste handling, emissions, chemical storage, and environmental protection
       
      Quality Assurance
      • Maintain complete, accurate, and compliant records, reports, and documentation for all regulatory activities
      • Coordinate ISO 14001 and Responsible Care management system elements for the site
      • Support ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and Responsible Care programs through documentation management and system compliance
      • Ensure environmental processes align with corporate quality and audit requirements
           
          Requirements & Qualifications
           
          Essential
          • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Health, Chemistry, Engineering, Science, or related field
          • Minimum 5 years of experience in Environmental, Health, and/or Safety in an industrial/manufacturing setting
          • High level of analytical skill with strong attention to detail
          • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to collaborate across multiple organizational levels
          • Project management experience with ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
          • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
          • Ability to climb stairs and safely navigate congested plant environments
          • Ability to work in both office and plant settings, including manipulation of instruments for inspections
          • Ability to travel 10% as needed
          • Ability to complete physical requirements, including light lifting and extended periods of standing or walking
           
          Desirable
          • 5 years of experience in the chemical industry
          • Experience with Responsible Care, ISO 14001, or similar systems
          • Wastewater treatment experience
          • Experience managing environmental programs within chemical operations
           
          Certifications Preferred
          • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
          • Certified Hazardous Assessor (CHA)
           
          Work Environment
          • Combination of office and chemical plant environments
          • Regular interaction in production and storage areas requiring PPE
          • Exposure to environmental systems, wastewater operations, and regulatory inspection areas
