Location: South Plainfield, NJ, Onsite
Job Type: Direct Hire
Salary: $65,000–$75,000
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM or 8:00 AM–4:00 PM (flexibility required for occasional schedule adjustments)

Position Overview

We are seeking an Environmental Health, Safety & Security (EHSS) Specialist to support and enhance environmental, health, safety, and security programs. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while promoting a safe, secure, and environmentally responsible workplace.

Key Responsibilities

Environmental Health & Safety

  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of EHS programs to maintain a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment.
  • Partner with Operations, Facilities, and HR to identify, assess, and mitigate workplace risks.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, hazard assessments, and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver EHS training programs, including:
    • OSHA-required training
    • Ergonomics
    • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
    • Emergency Response
    • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
  • Investigate accidents, injuries, and near misses; perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Support ergonomic initiatives to reduce workplace injuries and musculoskeletal risks.
  • Maintain safety equipment and emergency response resources, including first aid stations, eyewash stations, and fire protection systems.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on EHS policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Assist with maintaining written EHS programs, SOPs, and Emergency Action Plans.
  • Participate in safety committee meetings and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and update programs to ensure ongoing compliance.

Environmental Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with EPA, RCRA, Clean Air Act, and applicable state and local environmental regulations.
  • Maintain environmental permits, records, reports, and related documentation.
  • Coordinate regulatory inspections and serve as a point of contact for agency communications.
  • Support hazardous and non-hazardous waste management programs, including handling, storage, and disposal.
  • Track environmental performance metrics and support reporting and continuous improvement initiatives.

Security & Supply Chain Compliance

  • Support facility security programs, including access control, visitor management, and CCTV monitoring.
  • Oversee controlled-access and video surveillance systems in collaboration with IT.
  • Assist with security risk assessments and incident investigations.
  • Coordinate C-TPAT compliance activities, including trailer inspections and chain-of-custody procedures.
  • Maintain security policies, procedures, training, and documentation.
  • Escalate security concerns and vulnerabilities to leadership as appropriate.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Operations, HR, Maintenance, Facilities, and leadership teams to integrate EHS and security standards into daily operations.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in environmental compliance, occupational safety, or EHS programs.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1910 General Industry), EPA requirements, and applicable state and local regulations.
  • Experience conducting workplace inspections, incident investigations, and employee safety training.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Preferred

  • Experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, distribution, or industrial environment.
  • Familiarity with physical security programs and C-TPAT requirements.
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification.
  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification.
  • Experience with EHS management systems, compliance databases, or Learning Management Systems (LMS).
