Job Title: Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist
Location: Mahwah, NJ
Type: Contract
Compensation: $60.00 - $75.00 per hour
Hours: 40 hours per week
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support and EHS leadership to the Mahwah site, acting as a subject matter expert (SME) and key contributor to the EHS strategy.
- Maintain the EHS management system in compliance with internal and regulatory requirements, ensuring procedures and documents are current.
- Prepare and deliver training sessions, including inductions and job-specific EHS topics.
- Conduct regular EHS inspections and audits to monitor system effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
- Prepare EHS reports and metrics for internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead the Emergency Response program, ensuring procedures, resources, and training are in place for all emergency scenarios.
- Ensure a robust incident investigation process, monitor incident trends, and lead investigations as needed.
- Assess the EHS impact of proposed changes to plant, process, or equipment, and implement actions to ensure compliance and risk mitigation.
- Implement effective risk assessment and risk reduction programs for the site.
- Monitor legislation to ensure ongoing site compliance with current and future EHS requirements.
- Maintain waste management and environmental monitoring programs in line with DEP and EPA regulations.
- Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste activities, ensuring proper documentation.
- Lead EHS projects on the Mahwah campus and support cross-functional teams.
- Collaborate with site leadership to align on EHS priorities and action plans.
- Promote a culture of accountability and collaboration regarding safety and environmental performance.
- Conduct regular site tours to address safety risks and reinforce safety protocols.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in EHS Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- 3+ years of EH&S experience in manufacturing, focusing on Risk Assessment, OSHA Compliance, and Emergency Response.
- Familiarity with ISO 45001 standards and implementation.
- Proven stakeholder management skills and ability to influence at all levels.
- Preferred Certifications: First Aid, CPR, Hazardous Materials Technician, Incident Command, medical clearance to wear a respirator.
- Knowledge of Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, Root Cause Analysis, and Process Safety Management.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, time management, and organizational skills.
- Technical decision-making expertise.
- No supervisory responsibilities but may deputize for the leader in their absence.
- Ability to build collaborative networks internally and externally, demonstrating agility and flexibility.
