Job TitleEnvironmental Engineer – Project Technical Leader – Water ServicesJob LocationTennessee – KnoxvilleJob OverviewThe Project Technical Leader (PTL) role is a key technical position that focuses on delivery of water and wastewater treatment facilities, water and sewer systems, pipelines, pump stations, and related engineering designs. The PTL works within the Global Delivery Excellence Framework (GDEF), collaborating closely with the Project Manager (PM) and driving technical vision for both design and non‑design projects.ResponsibilitiesDevelop and drive the technical vision for projects, ensuring preemptive, preventive, and proactive approaches to mitigate delivery risks.Create engineering designs ranging from basic to highly complex, meeting client project requirements.Review draft designs and reports for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and sign off on completed deliverables.Ensure firm policies and practices are followed on all designs; perform site reviews and studies as needed.Contribute to the firm's Technical Knowledge Management by developing white papers, technical design documentation, and submitting technical papers to journals.Collaborate with sales staff to craft proposals in response to client RFPs, reviewing drafts for regulatory adherence and best practices.Meet with current and potential clients to discuss their design needs; attend conferences and symposia to enhance the firm's visibility.Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff; mentor and develop their growth within the discipline; may supervise junior engineers.Perform other duties as required.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience).Professional Engineer (PE) license.At least 10 years of related engineering experience.Domestic and/or international travel may be required.Expert knowledge of CAD/CAD software, engineering principles, Microsoft office, federal, state, and local regulations.Additional InformationAmount of travel required: 10%.Driver's license: appropriate and valid driver's license required.Work location options: Hybrid work options may be considered for the successful candidate.Visa sponsorship: None.EEO StatementCDM Smith is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
