Job Summary

Ensure plant cleanliness and records pertaining to the sanitation, food safety and quality of the product are in compliance to internal quality management systems, regulatory requirements, and customer or3rd party audit requirements. This person will work within the Quality team to ensure compliance with FDA, CDFA, USDA, IMS and other regulatory agency requirements, as well as customer and internal company quality systems requirements.

Essential Functions

  • Provide training on the Quality Systems and ensure training on SOP and SSOPs for respective job is conducted as part on onboarding program for new employees and employees moving to a new function/role in the plant. Maintain training logs.
  • Review and report Environmental and CIP Validation test results to plant management.
  • Review all documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness and consistency in content, format, files and authorizations and compliance with HACCP, FSMA, regulatory bodies and customer requirements.
  • Control and manage standardized document templates. Streamline process to minimize manual filing, scanning and copying documents by implementing electronic notifications and efficient distribution of released documentation in effective manner.
  • Assist in root cause analysis exercises pertaining to out of specification product, and/or environmental contamination which may include swabbing and other follow-up activities. May be assigned corrective actions and delegate tasks as needed and ensure timely completion of all corrective measures.
  • Inspect Environments and equipment ensuring Internal, Regulatory and 3rd Party compliance.
  • Assist in the pre-inspections leading towards audits to ensure no infractions are found during the walk through. Aid in the process and maintenance of plant audit related activities and documents to ensure accurate and timely completion.
  • Oversee the Master Sanitation Program. Review and investigate CIP deviations, report cleaning issues, and coordinate corrective actions with management. Conduct random sanitation verifications using ATP swabbing and visual inspections, ensuring post-CIP inspections are completed on critical equipment. Collaborate with operations to perform pre-startup inspections on major equipment and provide clearance for production start-up. Apply audit sampling methods and monitor sanitation practices to ensure compliance with GMP's. Must have the ability to get along with co-workers, management personnel, customers, vendors, and employees in accordance with the company policies and working rules while ensuring a harmonious and conducive work environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Supervising, training and reporting on the entire sanitation process.
  • Directing the work of all sanitation/ environmental and food safety personnel on site during shift; working with employees to achieve goals.
  • Reporting all employee issues to the QA Manager and/or Human Resources via telephone or written report.
  • Managing inventories and plan to maximize plant efficiency.
  • Coordinate overtime or call-in employees as needed to maintain shift coverage.

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Must work in a safe manner and follow all safety procedures including use of safety equipment.
  • Understanding or ability to learn general requirements of the Food Safety Modernization Act and Pasteurized Milk Ordinance and GFSI/SQF guidelines.
  • Must be willing to ask for assistance when the process is unclear.
  • Must have good organizational and communication skills.
  • Must be able to provide training to employees through Power Point presentations.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours and weekends.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Publisher, Word, Excel, and Power Point programs. Microsoft Visio is a plus.
  • Knowledge of food manufacturing operations in a fast-paced 24/7 setting
  • Proficient with Microsoft office software; and ability to learn other plant computer systems.
  • Must demonstrate good judgement when carrying out duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering or related field and Absent the desired degree Food Science, additional dairy manufacturing experience, particularly in a leadership role may be considered.
  • Two years of experience in quality or sanitation in a production environment; and 1 or more year of experience in a leadership role is desired.
Language Skills

English is required as the written and spoken language.

Equipment

Personal protective equipment including, but not limited to hearing protection, bump caps, hair and beard nets, gloves, and safety glasses must be used in the performance of duties. Proper lifting techniques must be employed at all times.
