Overview
This position is responsible for assisting the Environmental Department to maintain environmental regulatory compliance across the campus. The Environmental Analyst assists with monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting activities to support compliance with campus-wide environmental permits and programs. As directed, assists with routine compliance activities for all media to satisfy compliance with regulatory and operational needs as well as PSGC best environmental practices.
Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following (other duties and responsibilities may be assigned):
- Conduct groundwater and surface water monitoring, including collecting samples and field data, including water level and flow rate, on a weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis. Keeping comprehensive records of all groundwater and surface water monitoring activities.
- Conduct visible emissions observations from point and fugitive sources and document each observation.
- Assist with collection, characterization, and shipping activities in support of regulated waste program compliance, involving industrial and hazardous wastes, used oil and universal wastes.
- Analyze collected environmental data to identify and assess trends and patterns and assist in the development of strategies to prevent, control, or mitigate emerging issues.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Investigate incidents and non-compliance events to determine contributing factors and recommend remedial action to prevent reoccurrence.
- Assist in the development of permit applications, renewals, technical reports, and supporting documents for submittal to state and federal regulatory agencies.
- Review all outgoing correspondence and documents for completeness and accuracy. Prepare submittals with document controls ensuring that mailings are timely, logged, and filed with associated certifications/receipts (USPS, UPS, FedEx).
- Must have regular and reliable attendance.
- Other Duties: As assigned and delegated by the Director of Environmental.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position is considered a team contributor role without supervisory responsibility.

Education/Experience
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in environmental science, engineering or other related science preferred.
- Two (2) years of environmental compliance program experience including field experience conducting sample collection, field audits, and inspections.
- Preferred experience includes working in a mining or power generation environment.
Knowledge of
- General understanding of sampling techniques.
- General knowledge of environmental regulations.
- General knowledge of health and physical hazards associated with an industrial setting.
Certifications
- USEPA Method 9 visible emission observation certification (obtain within 3 months of employment).

Work Environment

- Will split time in an office environment and working outdoors.
- Will work outdoors for the purpose of collecting samples, performing inspections, organizing environmental inventory for disposal, etc.
- Will be visiting the power plant, mine, landfill and other areas around the campus that may have potentially hazardous locations.
- May be exposed to working around industrial equipment, temperature extremes, inclement weather and dusty environments.
- Will follow all safety procedures including wearing all the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment.
- Be required to perform physical tasks such as lifting, pushing, and pulling as needed.
Compensation and Benefits
At Prairie State, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as one grows and develops within a role. The base pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this role is between $68,000.00 salary exempt per year and $80,000.00 salary exempt per year. Individual pay decisions depend on various factors, such as skills, qualifications, and relevant experience. In addition, this position is eligible to participate in the Company’s monthly incentive program.
