PURPOSE AND ROLE
The Environmental Air Specialist serves as the lead air compliance environmental professional. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local air quality regulations and for supporting refinery and renewable plant in meeting all applicable environmental requirements.
The Air Specialist works closely with Safety Operations, Maintenance, Inspection, and Engineering teams to manage regulatory obligations, implement compliant work practices, and execute environmental programs effectively. A key focus of this position is the continuous improvement of the refinerys Environmental Management Systems, particularly those related to Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS).
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage CEMs program, including daily QA/QC activities and incident reporting. Manage Stack Testing Program to meet compliance and technical performance targets. Be a primary lead on regulatory inspections and information requests. Provide technical guidance, training, and support to Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Operations and Maintenance personnel. Develop and maintain training systems and content for internal compliance initiatives. Ability to understand process unit operations. Participate as a member of the emergency spill response team and/or Incident Command team. Prepare and support air permit applications and renewal application processes as needed. Emission calculations for regulatory reporting, business review, and incident review. Lead and participate in incident investigations and own corrective actions as needed. Review and approval for Management of Change and other risk assessments. On-call duties for weekends and holidays as assigned. Approximately one weekend a month. Additional duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
Air compliance and permitting experience at a large industrial manufacturing facility with a refinery or chemical processing plant experience preferred. Knowledge of current federal requirements and awareness of EPA enforcement initiatives impacting oil refineries and renewable production plants. Demonstrated critical thinking, initiative, problem-solving capabilities, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with standard computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet functionality). Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across disciplines and organization levels.
