Engineering Technician Job Description
  • Performs technical tasks to support field operations including but not limited to: equipment setup/maintenance and repair, strain gauge installation, construction of instrument cables, construction of data acquisition systems, and calibration of instruments.
  • Maintains shop cleanliness and organization. Maintains field test equipment and supports efficient testing activities. Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical and electronic equipment.
  • Fabricates instrumentation and electronic accessories as specified by supervising engineer. Performs instrument calibrations including but not limited to transducers and data acquisition devices. Follows relevant procedures and standards as well as internal quality control practices in all lab and field activities.
  • Assists in foundation testing services under supervision of cognizant engineer. This position includes travel <60%.
  • Identifies and corrects faults in electrical and mechanical systems in the field.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to use common machine tools
  • Ability to communicate Technical Information Effectively;
  • Ability to push, pull and lift 75-100 LBS from ground level.  
  • Ability to be trained and to work independently.
  • Ability & Willingness to travel to Jobsites across the US & Some International Locations. 
  • Construction or Mechanical Background Helpful.

Job responsibilities include/training provided:
  • Set up and operation of down-hole video system for inspection of drilled shaft foundation construction (Shaft Inspection Device).
  • Set up and performance of field testing of concrete drilled shaft foundations utilizing the Cross-hole Sonic Logging (CSL) method.
  • Perform Drilled Shaft Inspection.

Requirements

Job Requirements and Skills needed:
  • Willingness to be trained in the above field-testing methods.
  • Need excellent written and verbal communication skills and present yourself well.
  • Once trained, must be able to set up data collection systems on construction sites and perform test measurements in the field. Then download to USB drive and submit data to company engineering staff.
  • Must be organized and be able to keep project documentation, expense reports, time sheets. Basic Knowledge MS office.
  • Mechanically inclined and be familiar with operation of various equipment such as small gas engine, air compressor, water pump, small hand power tools (drill), mechanics hand tools, etc. helpful but not required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with good driving record.
  • Project involves periods of night shift work, thus applicant must have flexible work hours.
