Description of Work

The primary purpose of the Location and Surveys Unit is to provide statewide engineering and geomatics analysis in the development of transportation facilities and acquisition of property in accordance with the best professional engineering and surveying practices consistent with all laws and regulations governing the State Highway System.

The Location & Surveys Unit is looking for an Engineering Supervisor II to serve as an assistant to the Division Team Lead.

In this role you will:

•Serve as one of the 14 Divisions subject matter experts regarding geomatics engineering in accordance with professional surveying practices.
•Provide independent supervisory and advanced professional work in directing the engineering and geomatics-oriented group in a moderately complex and/or broad functional area.
•Assist in planning, evaluating and estimating Division managed projects by directing staff and Division engineers/managers regarding geomatics engineering in accordance with best professional surveying practices.
•Spend a considerable portion of your time performing more complex, controversial or advanced geomatics engineering work
•Provide uniform geomatics engineering and associated contract administration practices within your assigned Division to ensure timely project delivery.
•Be responsible for mitigating technical and logistical issues and providing solutions to deliver assigned Division and Central managed projects on time and within budgetary restraints.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade and Salary Range:  NC22 / $75,925 to $148,054   

Management prefers applicants with the following:

  • Experience utilizing all aspects of transportation and geomatics engineering rules, practices, standards and principles.
  • Experience ensuring compliance with department/Unit procedures in geomatics engineering operations and policies.
  • Experience making final recommendations and decisions requiring geomatics knowledge, providing professional surveying technical guidance, and collaborating with professionals regarding project network control.
  • Experience directing, supervising, completing performance management reviews, and coordinating multiple geomatics operations and supervising permanent employees, contractors and consultants.
  • Experience interpreting and communicating complex geomatics engineering design concepts and techniques.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and four (4)years of progressively responsible experience including two (2) years of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Requirements

May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
