The University of Virginia School of Engineering invites applications for an Engineering Service Coordinator. This position serves a hybrid role providing project coordination, work order scheduling, and hands-on facilities maintenance support. The role bridges administrative and field operations by coordinating small-to-medium facilities projects, scheduling and dispatching maintenance work, and performing or assisting with technical tasks to maintain buildings, equipment, and furniture across the Engineering School. The position requires strong organizational skills, customer service orientation, and technical competence in academic facility operations.
This is a full-time in-person role.
Responsibilities:
Work Scheduling & Coordination (30-40%):
Receive, review, prioritize, and schedule maintenance and service requests
Dispatch work orders to facilities staff and/or contractors based on skill, availability, and urgency
Monitor work order progress and follow up to ensure timely completion
Communicate clearly with customers regarding schedules, delays, and completion status, and gather feedback for process improvement
Maintain the computerized work request system
Analyze workload trends and recommend process or scheduling improvements
Facilities Technician Duties (25-35%):
Perform semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and installation work in areas such as:
Furniture assembly and installation
Building signage
Painting, flooring, and general building repairs
Assist with setup and breakdown for events or space moves
Operate hand tools, power tools, and vehicles safely
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
Team Support and Administrative (20-25%):
Coordinate minor projects such as renovations, repairs, equipment replacements, and space modifications
Administer electronic access control systems
Support procurement activities including quotes, purchase orders, and receiving
Manage internal redelivery of freight and parcels from central delivery points
Ensure compliance with SEAS and UVA standards and policies
Maintain accurate project records and reports
Customer Service & Collaboration:
Provide professional, courteous service to building occupants and stakeholders
Communicate clearly with a diverse range of customers and service providers
Support a team-oriented working environment across planning, maintenance, and operations
Promote safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement in our services
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Two years of related experience
Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
Associate's degree or technical certification in facilities management, construction technology, or a related field
Minimum of 3-5 years experience in facilities maintenance, construction, or building operations
Experience coordinating work orders, schedules, or projects (formal or informal)
Proficiency with basic computer applications and work order systems
For this position, the selected candidate will need to complete the required background checks prior to the start date of the position.
Compensation:
The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $26.00 - $36.00 ($54,080 - $70,720 Annually). This is a full-time position with UVA benefits . Employee benefits package highlights include:

Physical Demands:
Will require frequent traveling, standing, and climbing stairs to access buildings and facilities in order to assess conditions and review facility projects. The position will require occasional light lifting, bending and stooping, in addition to the use of desktop computers in an office environment.
