The County of Volusia is seeking an Engineering Section Manager -Working Title: Traffic Engineering Section Manager for the Engineering and Construction Division. This position is located in DeLand, Florida, and will conduct highly professional engineering and administrative work overseeing traffic engineering studies and functions for County Road projects and private development projects.

Illustrative Duties:

(Note: These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position.)

  • Responsible for all engineers and staff engaged in the reviewing existing traffic safety or operational conditions and situations, planning and preparation of reports on those conditions and potential resolutions for County roadways and pedestrian facilities.
  • Responsible for project assignments, scheduling, budgeting and cost tracking.
  • Responsible for the review of consultant proposals and management of consultants.
  • Responsible for reviewing and preparation of signal timing for signalized intersections, including systems of coordinated signalized intersections in a corridor.
  • Supervises, plans, and directs development of engineering and feasibility reports, preparation and administration of budgets, and contract administration.
  • Provide professional expertise to assist Land Development on traffic related issues as outlined in the County's Land Development Code.
  • May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs.
  • Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
  • Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.
  • Responds to emergency situations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in engineering, planning, design and construction, three (3) years of which are at a supervisory or project management level. Must have passed the Fundamentals in Engineering exam administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying.

A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum experience.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver''s license at time of hire.

Must possess a valid Florida driver''s license within 30 days of hire and maintain thereafter.
