POSITION SUMMARY
The newly formed Capital Projects Department seeks an Engineering Inspector II.
Preference will be given to City Employees.
This posting will remain open until a sufficient number of qualified applications have been received. The City reserves the right to extend or close the recruitment as needed.
This position leads inspection functions by overseeing and administering inspections and ensuring conformance to contacts, plants, specifications, municipal standards, regulations, bylaws, and other related requirements. The Engineering Inspector II also performs technical work in the inspection of public works construction projects and private development projects. An employee in this class is responsible for performing a wide variety of inspections in the engineering, infrastructure and construction field to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, codes and other applicable regulations.
This job classification is subject to the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Teamsters Local Union 769.

JOB REQUIREMENTS, PREFERENCES & WORK ENVIRONMENT
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent supplemented by technical course work in construction, engineering, estimating or related field
A minimum of three (3) years of road, water and sewer, or other public infrastructure construction inspection experience.
A minimum of 2 years inspecting capital projects.
Depending on area of assignment, must possess:
the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) - Stormwater Management Inspector Certification, and
the Maintenance of Traffic Certification (MOT)
Possess or be able to obtain a valid State of Florida driver's license within 30 days of hire.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
As public servants, employees may be required to work immediately before, during, and/or after an emergency. All employees must be available and able to work assigned shifts as determined by their Department Heads.
PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The position involves medium physical demands, such as exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Ability to lift, carry, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, walk, push, pull, grasp, stand and access heights or areas where limited space is available. May be required to perform work on a marine vessel.
