What You'll Do:

ECS is hiring an Engineering Branch Manager to lead our Geotechnical and Construction Materials Testing (CMT) operations in the Denver market. This is a senior leadership role with P&L ownership, responsibility for team growth, and a mandate to expand geotechnical engineering services while maintaining strong safety performance, technical quality, and client outcomes.

This is a new ECS branch, but you are not starting from scratch. ECS already has established Facilities and Environmental teams in the Denver region, active project wins, and a Regional VP with deep local relationships. You will have executive support, resourcing and financial backing, and the advantage of an employee-owned (ESOP) platform and an established brand in geotech and CMT.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct Denver-area geotechnical engineering and CMT operations, including P&L management, budgeting, forecasting, utilization planning, and hiring plans.

  • Build, lead, and retain a high-performing team of geotechnical engineers, project managers, field technicians, and lab staff, including coaching, performance management, and succession planning.

  • Own and execute the business development strategy for geotechnical engineering services, including target account planning, client expansion, and new logo growth.

  • Serve as a senior technical resource and principal engineer for complex geotechnical work including subsurface investigations, geotechnical analysis, foundation recommendations, earthwork, retaining systems, slope stability, and soil-structure interaction.

  • Lead proposal strategy and execution, including scoping, pricing, staffing plans, schedules, and risk management for multidisciplinary engineering work.

  • Increase market visibility through professional involvement, client engagement, and strategic partnerships across the Denver region.

  • Ensure consistent execution of ECS standards for quality management, safety compliance, reporting, and operational performance.

  • Partner with Facilities and Environmental teams locally to support integrated delivery and coordinated client growth.

What We're Looking For:

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering (geotechnical emphasis preferred) from an ABET-accredited university.

  • 12+ years of civil or geotechnical engineering experience, including people leadership and operations or business management.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain a Colorado PE within 3 months of hire.

  • Demonstrated leadership in geotechnical engineering operations, staff development, and client-facing project delivery.

  • Strong technical depth in geotechnical engineering, including exploration planning, laboratory test interpretation, foundation systems, earthwork, and geotechnical reporting.

  • Working knowledge of construction materials testing (CMT) methods, field testing practices, and laboratory standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering.

  • Experience with geotechnical design and analysis tools such as GeoStudio, LPILE, gINT, PLAXIS, MicroStation, or similar programs.

  • Track record of practice growth with accountability for revenue, margin, and team expansion.
