As a part of the Operations business unit supporting Blue National Security, you will focus on the development of satellite systems aimed at solving two of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today: space infrastructure and increasing mobility on-orbit. As a member of a hardworking team of engineers and specialists, you will be responsible for the design, manufacturing, and testing of Blue Ring a spacecraft capable of supporting a variety of missions from medium Earth orbit to the cislunar region. The Blue Ring spacecraft provides unprecedented delta-V capabilities, enabling customers to maneuver payloads of more than 3,000 kg to a variety of Earth orbits. Additionally, Blue Ring offers end-to-end services, including hosting, transportation, refueling, data relay, logistics, and in-space edge computing capabilities.

As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will translate engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into operational steps and processes to produce fully functional hardware at scale. Responsibilities include supporting builds, translating engineering definitions into manufacturing work instructions, and developing/qualifying new technology. Successful candidates will lead DFMA studies to strengthen the feedback loop between design, build, and test, accelerating product development.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Define how to prepare hardware for test, qualification, and flight.

    • Translate engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into fully functional hardware.

    • Identify, develop, and deploy new manufacturing methods (or refine existing) to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize build schedule.

    • Conduct Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) studies to strengthen the feedback loop between design, build, and test.

    • Design proper material handling and packaging to protect hardware throughout the build and test process.

    • Develop manufacturing work instructions to clearly define the following manufacturing process: receiving inspection, fabrication, assembly, integration, test, and refurbishment.

    • Closely manage cost, quality, build sequence, and schedule of hardware throughout the entire manufacturing process.

    • Create in-build redlines and recommend engineering changes to improve design.

    • Lead Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) reviews.

    • Perform engineering drawing review and provide final approval for manufacturing.

    • Develop process control measures and evaluation through statistical analysis.

    • Disposition and support non-conformance repair and rework activities.

    • Perform root cause analyses when non-conformances and escapes are identified and deploy corrective actions

    Skills:

    Responsibilities continued:

    • Interface with external suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure that hardware and equipment is manufactured, processed, packaged, and delivered properly, on time, and on budget.

    • Design, procure, install, and integrate custom manufacturing equipment.

    • Manage hardware configuration and maintain pedigree throughout the entire build and test process

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related discipline.

    • Strong mechanical or electrical engineering fundamentals.

    • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing or production engineering capacity, including internships

    • Demonstrated experience defining manufacturing process flows and selecting production equipment for electromechanical hardware.

    • Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals including GD&T, tolerance analysis, precision fits, and structural assembly.

    • Ability to read and interpret both mechanical drawings (GD&T) and electrical drawings (schematics, wiring diagrams, interconnect drawings).

    • Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Hands-on experience in an electric motor or rotating electrical machine manufacturing facility.

    • Experience with at least one of the following: avionics, wire harnesses, structures, spacecraft propulsion systems, mechanical systems, thermal protection systems, thermal management systems, and environmental instrumentation for aerospace.

    • Experience standing up new production lines or manufacturing cells, including equipment procurement and layout.

    • Experience developing spacecraft or other Aerospace, Defense and High Performance (ADHP) hardware.

    • Ability to obtain a DBIDS or NASA badge
