DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

This posting is for one Engineer-In-Training vacancies. Responsibilities Include but not limited to:

  • Conduct stormwater plan review and permit to ensure compliance with the Code of ordinances, City of Houston Infrastructure Design Manual (IDM).
  • Work with Customer and Citizens on various plans and documents submitted for review or questions.
  • Conduct any meeting that is requested from Customer and Citizens.
  • Understand Storm and drainage Design requirements including Code of ordinances, City of Houston infrastructure manual (IDM), and other codes especially in recent detention change and new rainfall data Atlas 14.
  • Review various Capital projects as assigned.
  • Contact Stormwater quality (SWQ) plan review and permit to ensure compliance to Code of ordinances, City of Houston Infrastructure Design Manual (IDM) and TCEQ Rules and Regulations.
  • Investigate and respond to any inquiries from other City of Houston departments, technical personnel, regulatory agencies, consultants, contractors and the public.
  • Assist other technical work related to drainage and stormwater infrastructure.
  • Perform other duties and tasks assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.

This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier III Level.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires graduation from an approved curriculum in engineering that is approved by the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers as of satisfactory standing, and possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training Certificate issued by the Board under the current requirements of the Texas Engineering Practice Act.

No experience is required.

Possession of a valid Engineering-in-Training Certificate issued by the Board under the current requirements of the Texas Engineering Practice Act.

PREFERENCES

  • Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
