Engineer II - Compute Platforms

As a Engineer II, you will contribute to building and delivering high-quality compute platform products while growing your technical expertise and impact within the team. Your day-to-day will involve participating in sprint planning and design discussions, breaking down complex problems into manageable components, and delivering well-tested features with increasing ownership and independence. A successful candidate brings solid engineering fundamentals, a proactive mindset in identifying and solving issues, and a commitment to quality, reliability, and continuous improvement. In this role, you'll primarily work virtually from home or another non‑Best Buy location. However, you must live within a drivable distance to our corporate campus in Richfield, Minnesota. What you'll do

• Participate in planning and design discussions, contributing to well-reasoned technical decisions
• Break down complex problems into manageable tasks and deliver features with end-to-end ownership
• Write high-quality, well-tested infrastructure-as-code while promoting reliability and monitoring best practices
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues across environments, including production, with minimal oversight
• Mentor junior engineers and collaborate cross-functionally to improve team performance and outcomes

Basic qualifications

• 3 years of relevant experience with a bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience, can included schooling
• 2 years of experience delivering enterprise compute platform features independently with strong technical execution
• 3 years Linux experience
• 2 years of experience with AWS IAM Roles and Permissions, security groups, monitoring and logging
• 3 years of experience in EC2/VM system architecture, design and implementation as a service
• Ability to identify risks, solving moderately complex problems, and make sound technical trade-offs
• Familiarity with SDLC, agile practices, and modern development tools (testing, monitoring, automation)

Preferred qualifications

• AWS Solutions Architect Professional Certification
• 4 years of professional experience
• 1 years of experience supporting AWS EC2, Auto-Scaling and Application Load Balancing
• 1 years of configuration management tooling experience: Terraform, Chef, Puppet & Ansible
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with a willingness to mentor and continuously learn
