Job Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity for a System Safety Engineer in our Safety and RAM Engineering group.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


+ Ability to learn aircraft and ground station subsystems and become an expert on how the systems work as a whole.

+ Support safety analysis of our Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS). Programs in development support the US Army and US Air Force, along with many other US and Foreign customers.

+ In this role, the successful candidate will work on an integrated Reliability and System Safety team to support both customer risk acceptance and airworthiness requirements.

+ Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

+ Development of a System Safety Program Plan, Preliminary Hazard Analysis, Functional Hazard Analysis, Common Cause Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, Safety Critical Functional Thread Analysis, System Safety Analysis / Safety Assessment Report, clear and concise system safety requirements, and support of the Hazard Tracking System in accordance with military and/or commercial standards, as required.

+ Understands the methods of identifying and categorizing Safety-Significant (safety-critical and safety-related) functions and their effects within the hardware, software, and human interfaces of the design architecture.

+ Applies technical knowledge to analyze, investigate and resolve assigned routine engineering problems.

+ Have strong communication, computer, technical writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

+ Maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.

+ Perform other duties as assigned.

+ Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.

Job Qualifications:


+ Typically requires a bachelors degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.

+ Must have a basic understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theory.

+ Demonstrates the ability to follow and apply basic engineering knowledge, adapt standard techniques, and utilize the required diagnostics, tools and equipment, while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

+ Familiarity with Unmanned Aircraft Systems, including Ground Control Systems, is desirable.

+ Familiarity with MIL-STD-882E, MIL-HBK-516C, Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) 4761, STANAG 4671, Hazardous materials as part of the System Safety process (including Hazardous Material Management Plan and Report) and/or foreign Hazardous materials requirements (i.e., REACH) is a plus.

+ Must be able to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment.

+ Good communication, computer, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other professionals, to produce appropriate documentation, and to present results to a limited internal audience.

+ Must be able to work both independently and on a team.

+ Able to work extended hours as required.

+ US Citizenship required.

+ Ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance is required.
