Energy and Controls Specialist - Level 2 Facility Services Classified Job Number: 2300289511 Start Date: 01282025 Open Date: 01282025 Closing Date: The duties include but are not limited to:
Working closely with and under the supervision of the Level 3 Specialist conducts preventive maintenance, detailed troubleshooting, repair, installation, and general servicing of the MCPSS Networked Building Automation Systems (NBAS) corresponding to work orders generated from the MCPSS computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). Complete all documentation of work performed in compliance with the CMMS data collection process.
Examine the Networked Building Automation Systems NBAS to diagnose problems using proper inspection, testing, and monitoring techniques.
Diagnoses and repairs DDC systems requiring general knowledge of the operation of DDC controllers and associated sensors and hardware while exhibiting safe and proper use of tools.
Must be able to quickly become familiar with the design and layout of the MCPSS facilities to learn the locations of installed energy management control and monitoring systems, mechanical equipment, and understand operating procedures relating to energy management controls.
Must be able to determine and utilize appropriate software in order to program and implement a provided sequence of operations.
Assists in programming and installing control systems and associated components for new equipment installation projects as well as existing controls upgrade projects.
Operates the Networked Building Automation Systems NBAS when Control Systems Manager is absent.
Supports the energy management team to reduce energy consumption by modifying control systems, installing new equipment, or programming sequences of operation.
Must be able to understand and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and other related MEP documentation.
Attends and actively participates in training opportunities provided by the department. Works overtime as needed.
Conducts extensive self-study, reading, research, and practice to improve and maintain technical proficiency in all software and hardware used in the MCPSS Networked Building Automation Systems NBAS.
QUALIFICATIONS
A minimum of two years of experience in the installing, programming, commissioning, and servicing of HVAC Controls is required. The ideal candidate will be familiar with diagnosis and repair of control systems and related HVAC systems. Experience on multiple control systems and communication protocols preferred.
Generally required knowledge includes HVAC controls systems, facilities management systems, site preparation, peripheral equipment installation, and servicing techniques.
Must have effective interpersonal skills to properly represent MCPSS in an ethical and professional manner.
Must have the ability to explain technical information to technical and non-technical people.
Must have leadership skills to support the activities of Mechanics working on non-complex, non-critical Building Automation equipment on a job site.
Must have PC experience and the ability to program HVAC-related software.
Must have experience utilizing controller-level software programming and must be able to learn multiple brands of software for programming field devices.

Duty Days: 260 Salary Range: From $58,914.00 to $89,140.00 Additional Job Information
Applicants selected for classified positions must undergo or have undergone an ABIFBI criminal history background check, fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the MCPSS and State of Alabama Education Department, and be declared suitable and fit to teach under state law.
