Job Overview

Fairview has an immediate opening for an Endoscopy Technician / Perioperative Aide at the UMP Ambulatory Surgery Center in Minneapolis, MN.

This is 1.0 FTE (80 hours per two week pay period), benefits-eligible opening on the day shift within the hours of 630AM and 5PM.

This role will assist with endoscopy procedures as well as standard clinic assistant and front desk duties as needed.

Overview

The Endoscopy Technician is an integral part of the GI team within the Endoscopy department who under the guidance and direction of the nursing team accomplishes a variety of delegated nursing assistive tasks such as equipment and supply set-up, assisting with collection of specimens, cleaning and disinfecting of equipment and scopes, exam room prep and clean-up including the documentation of cleaning and disinfection processes. They will complete direct patient care duties to ensure optimal patient outcomes and an exceptional patient experience. Endoscopy Technicians will monitor patients in local procedures and assist Registered Nurses in the admitting process by obtaining and documenting vital signs and admission information in electronic health record. Completes direct patient care duties to ensure optimal patient outcomes and an exceptional patient experience during the admission and discharge process. Assists patients with nutrition, ambulation, clothing, and toileting before and after procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Completes tasks as delegate by RN with defined role functions and competencies.
  • Assists in data collection to identify the patient's needs, problems, concerns or human responses (e.g. vital signs, blood pressure).
  • Assist with the implementation of the established plan of care, as delegated,
  • Assist the physician and nurse before, during and after the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, handling of devices used during procedures including forceps, snares, tomes, baskets and balloons under the guidance of the procedure physician.
  • Reprocesses and maintains equipment according to standards of infection prevention. policies/procedures and manufacturers' instructions.
  • Provides and maintains a healthy and safe environment for the patient and staff by complying with regulatory agency requirements and standards set forth by professional organization and institutional policies,
  • Acknowledges the diversity of patient.
  • Participates in ongoing continuing education.
  • Maintains knowledge of current practice issues related to the field of gastroenterology.
  • Complies with legal and practice standards inherent in patient care (e.g. patient's bill of rights).
  • Conducts oneself in an ethical and confidential manner.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities as directed, collaborates with the care team to ensure quality and continuity of care.
  • Communicates effectively with patient and inter profession team to ensure quality and continuity of care ensuring high quality and patient experience outcomes.

Required Qualifications

  • One year of clinical experience in an accredited hospital or surgical center
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited: Surgical Tech, or Endoscopy Tech or Instrument Tech Program or specialized training/education in gastroenterology CNA

  • Procedural Endoscopy experience, Operating Room experience.

  • Knowledge of endoscopy and/or operating room equipment and maintenance.
