General Description
The Orange County Emergency Services Department has an opening for a EMS Training Officer. An employee in this classification is responsible for managing the EMS Field Training and Evaluation Program (FTEP) for new Emergency Medical Services providers. This includes evaluating the field training process, participating in the selection and assessment process, orienting new providers, and assigning providers to an EMS field preceptor. This position is responsible for serving as the EMS Division system administrator for the daily observation reporting software and managing user access.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the EMS Bureau Chief of Training and Development with some leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in the performance of duties. Selection, training, certification, development and support of field preceptors is a responsibility of this class. Does related work as required.
Because this posting is for current Orange County Permanent Employees Only the Hiring salary for this posting will be based on your Orange County years of service and the Orange County Emergency Services Step Plan. Salary Range: $66,482-$88,872

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of an associate degree AND two (2) years of work experience in an EMS system at the Paramedic level.
Graduation from high school or General Educational Development (GED) test equivalency and five (5 years) of work experience in an EMS system with at least four (4) years of work experience as a certified Paramedic in an EMS system.
For internal candidates at least 2 of those years as a certified Paramedic for either qualification must be within the Orange County System.
At least 1 year of work experience as an EMS Instructor, Field Training Officer, clinical preceptor, or equivalent in Orange County or in a 9-1-1- based EMS system of commensurate size.
Possession of NC Level I Paramedic Instructor certification or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
Candidates must have received an annual review rating of proficient or higher and may not have received a disciplinary action at the written warning or higher within the last calendar year.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Completion of NC Level II Paramedic Instructor with in first thirty (30) months of employment is preferred.
Successful completion of ICS 100, 200, 700 and 800.
All offers of employment are conditional upon successful clearance of a pre-employment drug testing, background check and previously successfully completed the Paramedic Fitness for Duty assessment. Employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared.
In accordance with Section 28 of the Orange County Code of Ordinances, and/or relevant State and Federal statutes, candidates for employment may be required to undergo fingerprinting and a criminal history background check based on the job responsibilities of the position. A fingerprinting check is conducted by the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), and a criminal history background check is conducted by an authorized Federal or State regulatory agency to determine eligibility for appointment.
Employment is contingent upon successful clearance through these checks, which are mandated for certain roles depending on the nature of the job and applicable laws.
Further, all offers of employment are contingent upon the satisfactory verification of your eligibility for employment, successful completion of the required pre-employment testing and/or screening, including drug testing when required and the submission and approval of all new hire documentation completion of your new hire paperwork.
