Job Title: Employee Relations Consultant, Sr.
Location: Houston, TX (Onsite for the first month-then hybrid thereafter)
Duration: 6 Months (Extension possible)
Schedule: 8 AM - 5 PM

Duties:
  • Responds to questions ranging from simple to very complex within 24 hours of initial inquiry regarding employment issues and application of policies.
  • Interprets policies and practices for employees and leadership, ensuring consistent application of the same within regulatory parameters.
  • Conducts one-on-one meetings with employees or leadership, obtaining pertinent information, determining applicability of policies and procedures to the issue at hand, recommending an action plan, and providing follow-up as necessary.
  • Facilitates the Employee Problem Solving (EPS) process by functioning as mediator, proposing potential solutions to issues and coordinating any necessary hearings.
  • Initiates investigations of harassment, discrimination, misconduct or other allegations within 24 hours of notification, conducting necessary interviews/meetings, recommending necessary course of action, and providing sufficient follow-up.

Skills:
  • Broad knowledge of legal requirements related to Affirmative Action, Equal Employment, unemployment claims, etc., in order to ensure Hospital is in compliance with these activities.
  • Ability to competently utilize computer word processors and spreadsheet programs, and HRIS software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, time-management, and facilitation skills are required.
  • Incumbent must be able to interface effectively with all levels of personnel within the organization, work autonomously, and maintain flexibility and adaptability.

Education:
  • Required - 3 years experience is Human Resources
  • A Juris Doctor degree (JD) will substitute for the experience requirement.
  • Bachelors Degree - Business Administration or related discipline - Required
  • 5 years experience in Human Resources with two (2) years experience in Employee Relations - Required
  • Deep, authoritative knowledge of legal requirements and regulatory frameworks, including but not limited to and EEO related laws, FMLA, FLSA, NLRA, performance management, investigations, and attendance.
  • Fundamental knowledge of the ADA (as Amended), PWFA, and related accommodation laws.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to deliver articulate presentations, facilitate difficult conversations, and write defensible, objective case summaries.
  • Proven capability to work completely autonomously in a fast-paced environment, balancing a high volume of complex cases while maintaining exceptional flexibility, adaptability, and emotional intelligence.
  • Proven ability to work completely autonomously, balancing a heavy and emotionally sensitive caseload while maintaining high flexibility and exceptional organizational skills.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with a specialized ability to guide difficult conversations and build trust among highly diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated capability to train, mentor, and coach non-HR professionals, breaking down rigid regulatory concepts into simple, practical, and highly engaging learning experiences.
