Job Summary
Responsible for providing nursing care to employees/volunteers/students/chaplains/contract employees in a professional and courteous manner. Provides the following services including but not limited to the following: minor first aid, administering injections, administering tuberculin skin tests, coordinating with other medical providers, communicating with other departments of the hospital. These services are under the directive and guidance of the Employee Health Medical Director. All responsibilities are carried out in accordance with the mission, vision, strategic imperatives and standards of the LCHD, American Nurses Association Standards, and in accordance with the provisions set forth by the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education: Diploma or Bachelors of Science in Nursing
Minimum Years of Experience: 3 Years of relevant nursing experience.
Substitutable Education & Experience: None
Required Certifications/Licensure: Current RN license to practice in the state of South Carolina;
Maintain CPR certification.
Required Training: None.
Essential Functions
Pre-placement Screenings:
Interview and review health history
Tuberculin test as needed
Vision and hearing screening
Vital signs
Immunizations as needed
Communicate with employment as needed
Gather medical records as needed for correct job placement
Schedule appointment for pre-placement physical with Occupational Health as indicated
Communicate appropriately with all parties involved with employment process
Exposure Management
Yearly tuberculin skin testing on employees required to have annual testing
Two step tuberculin skin testing on prospective employees as indicated
Enter data in PeopleSoft
Provide counseling and diagnostic testing for positive skin test results
Refer positive skin test results to the health department
Immunizations on employees, volunteers and chaplains as indicated
Assist with follow up communication as needed
Participate in chart audits
Assist IC in determining immunization rates of employees, volunteers, chaplains, contract employees
Provide counseling and case management for employees, volunteers, chaplains, contract employees and students exposed to blood or body fluids.
Provide PEP as directed by Medical Director or ID physician
Consult with IC to reduce infectious disease transmission in hospital population
Duties & Responsibilities
Injury Treatment
Provide basic first aid to injured employees, volunteers, chaplains, contract employees or students
Transport client to ED as indicated
Schedule appointments with physician as needed
Assist with documentation and reporting as required
Communicate with WC Specialist or insurance carrier
Fax or scan medical records
Correspond/communicate with medical providers and other hospital departments
Management Illnesses:
Provide stock OTC medications upon request
Specimen collection and processing (throat or nasal swab)
Provide clearance for employees out of work for more than 3 days
Assess employees returning to work from short term or long term disability
Arrange medical evaluations as needed
Communicate with HR and management temporary and permanent requests for accommodations
Assist employees, volunteers and chaplains with referral to medical providers
Refer employees to EAP as needed or requested
Assist with For Cause drug and alcohol testing on employees
General Duties
Clean exam rooms as needed
Filing
Computer data entry
Orders for laboratory or radiology services
Process medical record requests
Provide information to outside agencies for auditing purposes
Maintain current licensure
Participate in HR staff meetings and EH staff meetings
N-95 respirator fit testing/training on new employees
Performs all other duties as assigned.
